This was suggested by a list member, and seems logical to me....at least an interesting explanation. S. " Perhaps the terms of 'grass widow' and 'sod widow' came abou t during the late 19th and early 20th century to accommodate those women who were no longer married nor single (grass widow) and those whose husband's had actually died (sod widow). It was a way to distinguish between the two."
