    3. Yes, I did grow up in Chester, but you have to remember that for anyone researching in the earlier part of the history of Chester County, those things are in the present Delaware County since that was also Chester County back then.  Both my Baker and Cobourn ancestors arrived here in 1683 and others not much later.  I also had the advantage of growing up in a house where genealogy and history were a part of my everyday existence as we lived in a multigenerational household with my grandfather, Chester F. Baker, who did extensive genealogical research on Chester/Delaware counties and many of the early families in the area.  I believe that his research is now housed with the Delaware County Historical Society, though I have copies of anything that pertains to my particular lines.  He worked on the restoration of the Caleb Pusey house, in present Delaware County, and a number of other projects.  Our Sunday afternoons (and sometimes our Saturdays) were spent visiting historical sites in both counties and so though I don't know exactly what is there today in terms of lodging and dining, put me back in the 1700s and I feel right at home. Thanks for your suggestions. I'll add them to the list and let everyone know when the new section has been added to the website. For anyone doing research in Chester County, you could point them in an unexpected direction - the library at the Springford Historical Society, which is located in Royersford, Montgomery County, PA. They have records from Spring City, which *is* in Chester County, as well as Montgomery County records for the surrounding townships. http://www.springcitypa.net/sfahs/ Then there's always the Coventry Tea Room, near the intersection of Routes 23 and 100 in South Coventry township. It's in a historic old house near the "village" (and I use that term loosely!) of Bucktown. Owen J. Roberts High School would be the nearest point of reference. http://mysite.verizon.net/vze7c4gn/index.html Coventryville itself is a neat place to look at wonderful old houses; cannot go in any of them but just a drive down what was the original Route 23 is great. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coventryville_Historic_District There are no places to eat traveling north on Route 100 from Route 401 until you approach Pottstown. There are also no places to eat traveling east on Route 724 from the Coventry Mall to Phoenixville. If I think of anything else, will write - Barbara --- On Mon, 3/2/09, Jane Unger <[email protected]> wrote: > From: Jane Unger <[email protected]> > Subject: [PaOldC] Research Ideas for Chester County > To: [email protected] > Date: Monday, March 2, 2009, 8:21 AM > I am the webmaster for the Chester County PaGenWeb site and > am in the process of a majoy re-do of the site.
