    3. This is exactly WHY one uses " "....I tried your subject, John Rockwell, without quotes, and got 336,000 hits, which is pretty useless unless you want to spend from now till Christmas checking them all out! Personally, I don't stop at one google, I do many....moving the words around in the subject slot, for different placement brings different results...I might use "John Rockwell" +Pennsylvania "John T. Rockwell" +Chester county Pennsylvania "john Rockwell" +the wife's name +Presbyterian Any different combinations I think of. S. "When searching at Google (or any other Boolean type search), putting quotesaround words tells the search engine to search for that EXACT string, not just in proximity, but exactly. That can be a difficulty when searching a name - for example, if you search for "John H. Rockwell" it will show youonly those results - and not include those that show John Rockwell or J. H.Rockwell - so when you use quotes around a string of letters (or phrase),the results will only show exact matches. Any info supplied after the + helps to narrow, or delineate, the search. Just an FYI."
