Oliver Cope of Asbury.Wiltshire, England, bought land from Wm Penn Sept 8, 1681 and supposedly arrived here early in '83, as he obtained a warrant for the survey of land in that year. He fixed his residence on Naaman's Creek, below the circular line of New Castle and there died around the end of May, 1697. leaving a wife, Rebecca, and 4 children; Wm; Elizabeth, who married ? Foulke and Hugh Blackwell; Ruth, m Thomas Buffington of Bradford; John. Rebecca, the widow died at John Copes in Bradford, ca 1728. Of Wm's children, or descendants nothing definite is known. An Oliver Cope of Kennett, may have been a son, and Rebecca Cope who married John Walter, of Sadsbury, a daughter. COPE, OLIVER. Now of New Castle Co.March 25, 1697. June 10, 1697.
