Greetings, all. I remain puzzled about the wife or wives of Christopher Folkerth ( 1736 - 1816 ). Here is what I think I know; Christoffel Volckerth arrived in Philadelphia in 1754 on the ship Brothers at age 18, unaccompanied by any others of that name. By the 1770s Christopher Folkerth is found as witness to several wills in Chester County. Christopher had a son, named John. The bible of John Folkerth and Peggy Huey, found in the Dayton, Ohio, library, says that John's mother was named Pamelia ( or Camelia, as a correction was attempted ) Rafesnider. This means Pamelia/Camelia was Christopher's wife ca 1774. In 1790 Christopher Folkerth and his wife, Margaret, sell some land in Chester County. The family seems to have been in the process of moving to Frederick County, Maryland, as they are found there in later census records. The 1815 will of Christopher names 'Margaret' as his wife. He then died in 1816. So I conclude that Christopher was married ( at least ) two times; to Pamelia/Camelia Rafesnider and to Margaret ‘Unknown’. Christopher had five other children that we know about; Catherine and Henry probably were born before John, while William, Samuel and my ancestor, Michael, probably were born after John. I am searching for any information about the marriage of Christopher Folkerth to Pamelia/Camelia Rafesnider. Alternate spellings of both surnames are cheerfully accepted. I am also searching for information about the marriage of Christopher Folkerth to Margaret ‘Unknown’. Both marriages probably were in Chester County, the first between 1760 and 1770 and the second after 1774. In addition, I can’t positively say that these were Christopher’s only marriages in Chester County … so any Chester marriage data between 1754 and 1790 for someone named Christopher Folkerth, or a close variation, would be appreciated. One more thing; Christopher’s son Henry married Margaret Schmid(t) in 1788 in Chester County and this Margaret has sometimes been confused with the Margaret Unknown who was the w/o Christopher. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. DICK FOLKERTH Dallas ps Yes, I have googled. More than once ...
