Hello All - New to this site so pls forgive any protocol errors I may make! I am looking for JOHN J. NOLAN's wife's (JANE) maiden name. I know it begins with an A since I can view the name on her son's WWI registration card dtd Sep 1918 (John I. Nolan) still I can't make out the rest of the letters to make any breakthrough on Jane's side of the tree. Here is what I know about John and Jane: JOHN J. NOLAN b. abt 1842-44 Limrick, Ireland; imm: abt 1853; d: 15 Jun 1930 Clifton Heights, PA JANE A. NOLAN b. abt 1847 in PA(?); d: abt 1918 - 1920 I've looked at all the articles on delawarecolib.newspaperarchive.com--at least I think I have--my eyes are buggy and have gone through thousands of records on Ancestry.com but to no avail. >From what I can gather from son's registration card, Jane's last name is: Agrue; Agrers; Ageres; Agurs; Agars; Agares etc, etc but I can't find anything on anything and would greatly appreciate some help in what my next move should be to find her maiden name. As you have a death date for John, have you gotten an obit for him? That should give valuable info on his wife, his own parentage, etc. How about his death certificate? I'm not sure if the death certificate would have any info on his wife, as you believe her to already have died, but it's worth a shot....and, I think his obit would say "his wife, the late Jane Ague Nolan, or what have you. How about the son's death certificate and newspaper obit? Those should contain the names and perhaps places of birth of his parents....ditto for any of his siblings...their death certificates and obits would contain the same parental info. How about census? Jane's place of birth will be included in census info, to at least let you know if she had been born in Pa, or Ireland....start with the 1850..she will be enumerated by name from then on....and be sure to watch for all the possible spellings. When you're in trouble with a name spelling, I think it far better to actually look at the records yourself, rather than just having someone do a census lookup...who knows if they'll use all the possible spellings, etc. I'm a firm believer in look see with 'human eyes'! (I looked on a CD of the PA 1850 census...there were no Agrue, Agrers, Ageres, Agur, Agars, Agares included in the state, but I'm not fond of this CD, so wouldn't take it as truth) I would imagine that they were probably Roman Catholics, so have you looked into Catholic church records, where they lived? I actually appears that these people didn't live in Chester, but Delaware Co, so it would be best if you addressed your query to the Del.
