Have you checked the will index included on the Chester Co Archives and Records site to see if there are wills for Henry, and Abraham? My will CD doesn't go far enough to be of any help. Who knows, you might find some answers to the daughter/father relationshipsincluded in the fathers' wills. Sandra : Searching for some help with the 2 Elizabeth Quiggs born about 1833/1834 in Coventry Twp. One Elizabeth was d/o Henry Quigg (1800-1881); the other Elizabeth was d/o Abraham Quigg (1802-1863) [Henry & Abraham were brothers]. One Elizabeth married Abraham Woodland on 18 Aug 1857; the other Elizabeth married Nicholas Vanderslice about 1862. In 1850 census, Elizabeth, d/o Henry, was living in her father's household in East Pikeland. Elizabeth, d/o Abraham, was living in the household of Henry & Eleanor Christman in East Vincent. I can't find any of these people in the 1860 census - where did they go? In 1870, Nicholas Vanderslice & wife Elizabeth were living in East Pikeland; Abraham Woodland & wife Elizabeth were living in East Vincent. Trying to find some documetation to determine which Elizabeth (d/o Henry or d/o Abraham) married Woodland & which married Vanederslice.

Does anyone know the occupation of John Rhoads (1745-1882) of Vincent Twp., who married Catherine Haldeman? Was he just a farmer, or did he have a trade?
from a lookup in CHESTER AND ITS VICINITY, DELAWARE CO IN PA, by John Hill..published in 1889 Charles Justice, son of Charles and Eleanor, emigrated to California in the ship Grey Eagle, when the gold fever first broke out in 1849. He now resides in Wheatland, in Yuba Co, Cal. He married Charlotte McFerran, dau of John Johnson Lynn, late of Brownsville, Pa, but moved to the golden state in 1853. They have 4 children, Eleanor Bella, Lynn Morton, Charles Eyre and Theodore JESSE Justice. Thus, it appears that your Jesse and Charles Eyre Justice, were brothers.
looking for the marriage date of William Duval Smedley and Elizabeth Matlack in Phila. Can anyone come closer than just 1900? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sandra Ferguson" <ferg@ntelos.net> To: "PaOldCh" <pa-old-chester-l@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, September 11, 2012 00:15 AM Subject: [PaOldC] all Pa Co Marriages 1885-1950 > >> Familysearch updated the marriage records today, Sept 8 >> >> https://www.familysearch.org >> >> >> >> >> > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > PA-OLD-CHESTER-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without > the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
OK. I think I can narrow your search a little bit. According to the 1900 census for Philadelphia, William, a single man and machinist, is living with his widowed mother Mary Smedley in Ward 22. At the same time, Elizabeth W. Matlack, a single woman and seamstress, is living with her parents Franklin and Margaret D Matlack in Ward 33. Ages and birthplaces match with later census entries for William D. and Elizabeth W. Smedley. My opinion is that William and Elizabeth got married between June 1 and December 31, 1900. Of course, you could write to Philadelphia to see if you can get a copy of marriage license #124868 (1900) for William D. Smedley and Elizabeth W. Matlack (as shown at https://www.familysearch.org). The officiating officer's/minister's return should give you the actual marriage date. Have you located them in the 1900 Census to see if they were married by June 1, 1900, or not. Also, do you have names of parents and dates and places of birth for these two? I'd love to help. Leopard is at the intersection of Leopard Rd. (2 branches, #1 > N & #2 > NE, @ 1000 ft apart) and Darby/Paoli Rd (Rt 252), in Easttown Twp., Chester Co. If you follow Rt.252 > N toward Rt. 30 / Lancaster Pike, it is also called Leopard Rd. for @ 1 mile, starting near Waynesboro, the estate of Gen. Anthony Wayne. The next time I drive in that area I'll drive by to see if there might be a ruin/relic/remnant of the old Post Office / Tavern. This is from the ADC map of Chester Co.
