For instance, on the Bristol Merchant, in 1685: Thomas Farmer and family brought the following servants: Joane Daly, Philip Mayow and Helen his wife, Johm Mayow, John Whitloe, Nicholas Whitloe, Thomas Younge and his wife, Wm Winter, Geo Fisher, Arthur Smith, Thomas Alferry, Henry Wells , Robert Wilkison, Elizabeth Mayow, Martha Mayow, Sarah Binke, Shebe Otevan, Andrew Walbridge. Thomas Webb and son brought the following servants; John Beltshire, John Robinson, Richard fford, James Banbury, Thomas Case, Henry fford, John ffox, Derby Haley, Joseph Case, Thomas Burke, John Garrett, Kohn Mehone, David Quinn, Mary Widdam, Prudence Stuart, Katherine Robinson, Richard Musk Sandra Sent from Sandra's iPod ????

    3. Eliz, thank you for this information on Hezekiah and, in another email, Llewellyn Davis' grave location. That is just what I was looking for. I called the church today and the sexton was very helpful in looking up graves - he found another Llewellyn David or Davis that the Rev War vet. He said he would send a scan of all the Davis/Davies and Llewellyns in their records and it appears from our conversation that it includes people not on Find a Grave (perhaps because the graves are no longer legible). I wasn't very clear in my previous postings. Hezekiah Davies was son of Nathaniel Davies who was son of David Davies. The latter two emigrated from Wales; Hezekiah was born in Chester Co. David Davies' father was John David Llewellyn of Clynherkin, Manordeifi Parish, Pembrokeshire (this recently discovered) and I was hoping to find some evidence that these David Llewellyns, one of whom was a neighbor of the Davies, were cousins. If they were, it does not appear that they were close, since there is no evidence that they were mentioned in each others' wills, etc, and from what I could tell from the phone call today their graves were in the same area but not adjoining or nearly so. 3. The complete paragraphs about Hezekiah Davies and his wife Pennsylvania Women in the Revolutionary War [p.65] Anne Schenck was born March 19, 1763, on Long Island. She was the daughter of Nicholas Schenck (1732-1810), and his wife, Wilhelmje Wyckoff. The Schencks, it is said, could trace their ancestors back to the time of Charlemagne, in the eighth century. They were a very prominent family in the early days of the settlement of Long Island. Anne Schenck was married October 29, 1780, at Flatlands, L. I., Kings county, by the Rev. Vansinder, to Hezekiah Davies. She was a young lady of good education, and a patriotic lover of her country. It has been stated in some of the histories that the Schencks were Tories. This was not correct. So far as regards Anne's parents they were patriots, devoted to their country's cause. It may be well, perhaps, to refer to her husband's services in the War of the Revolution. Hezekiah Davies, the son of Nathaniel and Hannah Davies, was born November 22, 1747, in Charlestown township, Chester county, Pennsylvania. At the commencement of the war of the Revolution he entered heartily into the service, and when the "Flying Camp" was formed, he was commissioned a lieutenant in Colonel Montgomery's Chester County Battalion of that formidable body. He participated in the battle of Long Island, where he was slightly wounded. Upon the surrender of Fort Washington to the British, on the 16th of November, 1776, he was sent to the prison ships then in Wallabout Bay. Subsequently he was paroled and allowed to remain on Long Island. It was during this period that he met Miss Schenck, a girl with such charming and winning manners that it was [p.66] little wonder the patriot soldier offered his hand in marriage. There was some opposition on the part of her parents, and it is owing to this fact that the statement was made in regard to their Tory proclivities. The objection, however, was simply on account of the youth of their daughter and their want of knowledge of the personal character of Lieutenant Davies, who was an entire stranger to them. They were married at the time stated, but the lieutenant was not exchanged until the 7th of December following, when he returned to his home in Pennsylvania, taking his bride with him. Owing to the financial circumstances of her husband, Mrs. Davies was obliged to practice much self-denial during the years of the Revolution which followed, from the fact that her husband was almost continuously in the service, and the pay being in Continental money was so depreciated as to be almost worthless. Their married life, however, was happy and peaceful and quiet. After the close of the struggle for independence, Lieutenant Davies took an active part at the beginning of the present century in the political affairs of the day. He was elected a member of the General Assembly in 1803 and re-elected in 1804. In that body he was prominent on some of the most important committees. Mrs. Davies died February 11, 1826. Her husband died December 27, 1837. They were both buried in the Presbyterian graveyard in the Great Valley, Chester county, Pa. They left a numerous posterity, some of whom have become prominent in the various sections of the Union where they reside. 3. No sign of it in Chester Co. but their properties adjoined and the names suggest they may have come from the same parish in Wales. I'm referring to Hezekiah Davies and Llewellyn Davis of Charlestown. If anyone is interested in these families, I would be happy to exchange information. I have found the Davies' roots in Wales and there is a Llewellyn connection there. 1. [PaOldC] My 2 Elizabeth Quiggs - who's your Daddy?
    2. Sharon Kleinstuber
    3. First, I want to thank everyone who has responded to my requests for info on my 2 Elizabeth Quiggs. Your info & suggestions have been so very helpful! But, I need one very important piece of info - their fathers. Elizabeth Quigg, born 18 Mar 1834 in Coventry Twp. married Nicholas Vanderslice about 1861. She died 9 Aug 1901 in Royersford & is buried in East Vincent Reformed (UCC) Church Cemetery. Elizabeth Quigg, born 28 Nov 1833 in Coventry Twp. married Abraham Woodland in 1857 in Philadelphia. She died 4 Mar 1890 in Spring City & is buried in Morris Cemetery in Phoenixville. One Elizabeth was a daughter of Abraham Quigg (1802-1863); the other Elizabeth was a daughter of Abraham's brother, Henry Quigg (1800-1881). I have not found a birth/ baptism record for either. Abraham died in East Vincent & I have a copy of his Chester County estate file, but it does not list his children in his will or other estate papers. Henry died in Fairfax Co., VA, but was transported back to Chester Co. & is buried at Brownback's Reformed (UCC) Church Cemetery. So far, I have been unable to find a will &/or estate file. This Quigg family has been associated with Brownback's Reformed; East Vincent Reformed; Zion Lutheran; & Vincent/Coventry Mennonite - & possibly other local Chester Co. churches. For any additional info I have collected, contact me at snkgenealogy@hotmail.com. Again, thanks to all who have helped me. Sharon

    3. When requesting help, it is good to include some more info, other than just a surname....which, is not nearly enough for folks to go to their resources to help you look. Every query must contain 3 elements.....full name, date, and geographic location. In this case, it would be helpful , if you would also include a religion, if you know it. Many of us have various and assorted burial records, but don't have the time to look through them all, without more information. We like to help folks, but need straw for bricks!! 3. When I was a newby at online genealogy someone told me always include: Who, What, Where, When in all queries. The more info you send the more likely you are to get help. As the manager of the Tombstone Project let me tell you how many people over the years who have sent inquiries like "can you find my grandfather's grave for me?" with no other information is stunning!   Kathi Jones-Hudson, National Manager Tombstone Transcription Project http://www.usgwtombstones.org/ >________________________________ > From: Sandra Ferguson <ferg@ntelos.net> >To: jhelmke@sbcglobal.net; pa-old-chester-l@rootsweb.com >Sent: Tuesday, October 2, 2012 12:32 PM >Subject: Re: [PaOldC] graves in Chester co PA > >When requesting help, it is good to include some more info, other than just >a surname....which, is not nearly enough for folks to go to their resources >to help you look.  Every query must contain 3 elements.....full name,  date, >and geographic location.  In this case, it would be helpful , if you  would >also  include a religion, if you know it.  Many of us have various and >assorted burial records, but don't have the time to look through them all, >without more information.  We like to help folks, but need straw for >bricks!! >                                                        Sandra > > >"Has anyone found graves for Allison and Simonton?
