    2. Sharon Kleinstuber
    3. George Miller was born 5 Mar 1771 to Peter & Margaretha (Schumann) Miller in Vincent Twp.; baptism at Zion Lutheran Church. George married Elizabeth (surname unknown). George & Elizabeth had 5 sons (that I know of): Peter, 1806; George, 1807; Samuel, 1808; John, 1811; & Joseph, 1813. All 5 were baptized at Zion Lutheran. George was in Vincent Twp. census 1800 thru 1830; 1840 in East Vincent. George's widow, Elizabeth, was living with her son Samuel in East Vincent in 1850. George apparently died between the 1840 & 1850 census. I am searching for George Miller's death date & burial location. I suspect he is buried in Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery. Does anyone have easy access to the death, burial &/or cemetery records for Zion Lutheran who could do a look-up for me? Thank you, Sharon

    3. Recently we've had trouble a couple times with spam getting through the rootsweb filters and reaching the list. I think some don't really understand how these things work, or how they can have spyware and not know it. I think this site might give a better grasp on what may be happening, how it happen and what to do about it. Those of us using a Mac, iPad, iPod, or Kindlefire needn't worry. So far there are no known ways for us to get infected! I'm sure that will change but for now, knock on wood, we're safe! It's the poor old PCs that have all the problems! 3. I would suspect that these might be different spellings of the same name! There is a George Emrich (George Emrey) who gave money to the building of a Lutheran Church in Pikeland Twp 1771. He was a church deacon in1772.....St. Peter's Lutheran Church. Apparently Geo. was known to spell his name 2 ways. There is nothing in Futhey and Cope under the spellings Emmerich or Emerich. 1. [PaOldC] Lydia Hayes Leeds 1863-1926
    2. Sandra Ferguson
    3. I recently bought back issues of a favorite magazine and in one was the story of a woman who bought an old quilt and researched to find the maker. Turns out the quilt maker was Lydia Hayes, b 1863 to the 3rd child of Jacob Borton & Hannah Hughes Thompson Hayes, both Quakers from New Castle. Lydia's siblings were Caroline, William, Albert and Mary. In 1870 the family lived in Thorndale, Caln Township, along with a domestic servant, Sarah Rose. 8 day, 5th mo, 1889, Lydia m. Alfred Leeds, a Quaker farmer from Burlington, NJ. They had 2 children, Helen and Roland. Lydia's mother died in 1911, her husband in 1915, her father in 1916 and Lydia herself in 1926. You just never know where you'll find things of interest. ( for years I read aloud our state magazine and recorded it for the blind to check out at our archival library. I didn't bother reading ahead so I had NO inkling how surprised I was to be when, turning a page, I saw the house I had grown up in! It was built before the War between the States, and was also the family home of Davis Grubb, the author of Night of the Hunter among other things, the reason for it's finding it's way to the magazine! WHAT a surprise and what are the odds the person reading the magazine had lived there, too?) S. Sent from Sandra's iPod ????

    1. [PaOldC] Memorial Day
    2. Sandra Ferguson
    3. Memorial day, established as a tribute to veterans of the War between the States, reportedly began in May of 1866, when the town of Waterloo, NY, decorated the graves of their Civil War veterans. (several other towns claim the same honor - Boalsburg, in Pa, and Columbus, MS, Arlington, Va and Belle Isle, in Va are 4 who also had early observances). However, all agree that General John Logan, of the GAR (Great Army of the Republic) designated May 30th, as a Memorial day, and did so in 1868. Gen. Logan asked for " a day for strewing with flowers or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died in defense of their country, and whose bodies now lie in almost every city, village or hamlet churchyard in the land.....it is the purpose of the commander-in-chief to inaugurate this observance with the hope that it will be kept from year to year while a survivor of the war remains to honor the memory of the departed." No veterans of that long ago civil war are left to us, but the observance has expanded to include any national war, for we've had no lack of those, unfortunately...and, once more our young men are being asked to lay down their lives in 'foreign climes' - there will be no shortage of graves to decorate, and men to remember, for many years to come. So, this weekend let's take a moment away from the BBQs and picnics, and think of those men....and, say a silent word of thanks to those who made it all possible! Sent from Sandra's iPod ????
