Nathaniel Newlin was born March 19, 1690 in Concord, now Delaware County, Pennsylvania, the son of Nathaniel and Mary Mendenhall Newlin, and entered into a family life of affluence and deep religious conviction. His intention to marry Jane Woodward, the daughter of Richard and Jane Woodward was announced in the Concord MM in 1710/11, and took place at the Meeting at Middletown, 1st 2nd MO, 1711. Little is recorded about the life of these 2, and they seemed to disappear into the shadow of Nathaniel Jr's father, who was so active in local church life and political circles. Nathaniel Jr and Jane had the following children; a.. Rachel, the first child was born in 1712, and married in 1734, Wm. Walter, son of Godwin and Elizabeth Walter. Elizabeth died 9 June, 1802 . b.. Elizabeth was born in 1715, and died, unmarried, in 1741. c.. Nathaniel III was born in 1717 and married Esther Medcalf in 1735. d.. Joseph was born in 1718, and married Phebe Lewis, daughter of Samuel and Phebe Lewis, in 1740. Joseph died in 1768, and Phebe in 1775. e.. Jane was born ca 1719, and married, in 1737, James Hill. f.. Martha was born in 1721, and married Isaac Harvey, son of William and Judith Osborne Harvey. She died in 1806 and is buried in NC, where she and her family moved. g.. Mary was born ca 1722, and married James Morrison. She died in 1775 in Chester co, where they lived in Birmingham Twp. h.. Nicholas was born in 1723... i.. Nathan was born in 1728, and married, in 1751, Susanna Brown, the daughter of Daniel and Susannah Brown. They lived in Cecil County, MD. The children of Joseph and Phoebe Lewis Newlin; Ellis, Elizabeth, Nathaniel and Edith. Oh 12 2mo 17490, Joseph and Phebe obtained a certificate of removal from Concord to Newark Meeting. Between 17401 and 1750 they moved to Christiana Hundred, De,a nd became members of the Wilmington meeting. They built a house at 4th and West Streets, Wilmington, and were quite wealthy. According to his will (1731) Nathaniel and Jane Woodward Newlin had ten children, all named in the will including Joseph. Ellis Lewis was one of the trustees - no doubt a relative of Joseph's wife, Phebe Lewis, and for whom Ellis Newlin was named. Also Jane Woodward Newlin died 1737 so no daughter born 1762. So am surprised at the Cope information as he is usually right on target! Perhaps it is a different Nathaniel Newlin? Here is the will abstract: Nathaniel Newlin Decedent Residence: Concord Date: 10 Jan 1731 Prove Date: 29 Feb 1731 Book Page: A:349 Remarks: Newlin, Nathaniel. Concord, yeoman. January 10, 1731/2. I would like to establish contact with descendants of the subject BROOKOVER and/or others who might be able to provide details about the family. Andrew BROOKOVER was to me a double second cousin, once removed. Andrew's lineage was: Jacob (Germany)>Aseal (MD)>Andrew J(OH)>Aseal Richard(OH)>Andrew J(OH). He was associated with the Downington Paper Co in Downington, PA. Before settling in PA he had lived in IL and NY, as well as his native OH. I think that others of his family also were associated with the paper mill. Billy Grimes

I've been searching through the CD of area wills, looking for these folks, and while I find some of the same surnames and even given names in wills, none are for Robert Mercer, Olive Pyle Mercer, Phebe Mercer or Phebe Stewart...I was hoping, but no luck....no wills for any of these folks and none mentioning them specifically, in any way. Next time, though, when you include a date it's nice to know what that dates signifies....birth? marriage? death? It makes a big difference when searching, for example, through will data.......gives a much better idea of 'when' you could actually hope to find someone in the will of, for instance, their parents. Good luck. Sandra " Seeking ANY information on Phebe MERCER ca 1750 d/o Robert MERCER and Olive PYLE. Said to have married _______ STEWART.
