    3. I have what appears to be a handwritten transcription of the records of Concord Monthly Meeting and probably other Monthly Meetings which I do not have. On Page 453 is the following: Richard Woodward of Westtown, son of Robert of Rockland Manor, born 12-17-1673. Immediately under that line was: Mary Nail, dau. of Henry Nayle, Eeq (also written Neal), born Sept 24.1684. On the next line is: (d.i.7-10 and 8-8-1705) married before 9-12-05. Following that is: Children of Richard and Mary Woodward of East Bradford: Henry b. 7-12-1706, d. 9-1-1790, m. Mary Townsend 3-20-1731 John, b.6-3-1708, no death date, m. Ann Pyle 3-28-1729 (following that were the names Hannah (Vernon) Brinton and Hannah (Newlin or Martin, cannot determine which) Richard, b. 10-21-1712, no death date or marriage info shown. Thomas, b. 11-7-1722-3, d. 6-15-1785, m. Elizabeth Jacobs, dau. of Roger Kirk, 10-26-1745 Deborah, b. 4-27-1710, no death date, m. William Bennett 3-21-1730 Mary, b. 12-5-1715, no death date, m. John Strode Alice, no birth or death date, m. Joshua Ash Following the above entries was the following: Richard died between Oct 9, 1747 and Oct 19, 1748 Mary died between Dec 21, 1748 and Jan 21, 1748-9 Following that was a handwritten copy of the marriage certificate between John Woodward, son of Richard of Bradford, yeoman, and Ann Pyle, dau. of William of Thornbury, yeoman, (d.i. 2-7 and 2-5) m. 3-28-1729 at Concord Mtg. Margaret, A woman has two X Chromosomes (and no Y's), from her mother, that she received from her mother, etc.....the Maternal Lineage with mtDNA Men receive an X from their mother (just as his sister would have received), and a Y from their father, who received the Y from his father, etc.....the Paternal Lineage with Y DNA Thus, Genetic Genealogy helps to trace from Mother to Daughter, etc And from Father to Son, etc.... As a woman, you can only participate the Material lineage with mtDNA JFBailey www.baileywick.com -----Original Message----- From: pa-old-chester-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:pa-old-chester-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of eeyore Sent: 22 October, 2006 14:37 To: Nadine Holder; pa-old-chester-l@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [PaOldC] Woodwards of Chester County, Pennsylvania Could someone explain to my ignorant self why DNA projects require Y Dna (from males) in order to establish descendancy? Interestingly the DNA of all three is extremely close, indicating that possibly Thomas and Richard were closely related or the subject has the wrong Thomas as his ancestor (there were four Thomas Woodwards in the 1790 census in Chester County). Wouldn't it be interesting if some male Woodwards currently living in Chester County and descended from Richard and Jane would volunteer for the DNA project so we could see the comparison of those who stayed in Chester and those who took the North Carolina Indiana migration route? _________________________________________________________________ Stay in touch with old friends and meet new ones with Windows Live Spaces http://clk.atdmt.com/MSN/go/msnnkwsp0070000001msn/direct/01/?href=http://spaces.live.com/spacesapi.aspx?wx_action=create&wx_url=/friends.aspx&mkt=en-us

Richard Buffington, in his will of 1747-8 gave 5 lb to Owen Thomas, minister of the "AnnabaptistSociety", and 20 lb to the society. After the death of John Bentley, themeetings were held at the house of his son Jeffrey Bentley, who in 1752 gave a lot of ground and built a meeting-house, at which Rev. Owen Thomas first preached in Oct. 1752. His ministry ceased in 1759, due to "bodily infirmities", and he was replaced by Rev. Abel Griffith, who ministered until 1767, when he went on a missionary tour to New England. Jeffrey Bentley, on the death of his father, was made a deacon. In 1775, Rev. Griffith returned and resumed his pastorship, but resigned in 1791 and moved to KY. (at this time, there were 49 members of the congregation, a bit growth from the original # of 15)! Next came Rev. Joshua Vaughan, till 1808, and the membership doubled. So the old meeting house became toosmall, and a new one was built, where it stands today (1889)... The first burial in the Hephzibah burial-ground was Rachel Thomas, April 16, 1793. The website for American Baptist Churches is www.crds.edu/abhs.This is the site for American Baptist-Samuel Colgate Historical Library. They have in their archives microfilm for Brandywine Baptist Church 1699-1881 and original records for Hephzibah 1707 to 1834. --- Original Message ----- From: D. He may have been from Wales but not really sure. Jacob Humphrey would have been a grandson and an early member of the Hephzibah Baptist Church. And I have ran across other Humphrey families in Philadelphia which may or may not have a connection to my Humphrey family. Really not sure, but if there is a connection it is probally a generation or so back. There was a Charles Humphrey that voted against the Declaration of Independence and he could be distantly related.
