Am also researching the Lute family from Westmoreland County. It is said that my Nicholas Lute came from Chester Co.,Pa. In Chester Co. there were George, Jonathan, Michael, Peter and Thomas besides Nicholas. Nicholas began improvements on his Westmoreland plantation in 1772. George Lute(of Chester County) may have been his father (or son)paind taxes in Chester County from 1769 to 1771 on 100 acres of land, 3 horses, 2 cattle and 4 sheep. It is known that Nicholas had a land warrant for his property in Westmoreland...would like to know it any more is known or if what I have can be proven? There are different variations for spelling of the name also...I have seen Loot, Luet...and the family, I believe origianlly came from\ Germany. Any help would be appreciated.. Scottie
I have not seen the name John (E.) Jackson associated with this family. If there is a John E. Jackson who died in 1761, it is not the one who married Sarah Miller of our discussions. That John Jackson did not die until 1791 - his death is recorded in the records of New Garden M.M., Chester, PA. John's second marriage to Margaret Hayes is also recorded as 15 11mo 1769 at the Londongrove M.H. The Rebecca Jackson, b. 12 1mo 1697 in Oldcastle, Meath, Ireland and who married Jeremiah Starr as his first wife, before he married Margaret Hayes, is the sister of John Jackson who married Sarah Miller....so, John Jackson married his second wife - Margaret Hayes - who had been the wife of his brother in law! Isn't genealogy grand.... ----- Original Message ----- From: [email protected] To: [email protected] ; [email protected] Sent: Sunday, May 03, 2009 10:52 PM Subject: Re: [PaOldC] John Jackson The dates for Margaret Hayes and Jeremiah Starr don't make sense if Margaret married John E. Ooops: I see there was a bit of a problem with my transcription in the first message regarding daughter Hannah (of John & Sarah (Miller) Jackson! It should read; Hannah, born 1mo. 16, 1745; married Moses, son of William and Elizabeth Rowan, of New Garden, 10mo. 17, 1770....etc. etc. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]>; <[email protected]>; <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, May 03, 2009 9:02 PM Subject: Re: [PaOldC] John Jackson >I don't think we have the wives of John E. Here are births of children of John JACKSON and Sara MILLER, all shown in Humphrey's Births for Chester Co at New Garden MM. First: Sarah MILLER, his wife is born 30 4mo 1723 children listed: Rachel 28 11mo 1741 Isaac b 29 10mo 1741(or 1742)-shown with both years - 1742 seems more correct Hannah b 16 1mo 1745 John 16 11mo 1746 Sarah 4 3mo 1750 James b 1 8mo 1752 Ann b 17 6mo 1755 Thomas 4 11mo 1757 I don't see any John Jackson with wife Elizabeth..... There is a later John with wife Mary HARLAN, probably the son b 1746? They had children in 1770-1780s. If you want a list, let me know! Diana in AL [email protected]
I don't think we have the wives of John E. Jackson. b/ 16 Pct 1712) correctly listed. Sarah Miller b. 30 Apr 1723, d. before John E.'s will in 1761, seems to be the mother of his seven children: James, Isaac, Rachel, John, Thomas, Ann and Sarah, all born between 1741 and 1755 (I don't have the birth date for son, Thomas, so he might have been born in 1740). This wife is probably correct, though she married very young at the age of 17. Elizabeth Parke b. 1711, d. 16 Apr 1746, so she was probably not John E.'s wife, as Sarah Miller presumably was still alive (unless Elizabeth is the mother of some of the children above). Margaret Hayes married a John Jackson 15 Nov 1769 at London Grove Meeting, but John E. Jackson had died in 1761 (per the probate of his will). So who was Margaret, wife of John E., listed in his will? Any theories? I'm thinking that John E. was only married twice ... Eleanor ************** The Average US Credit Score is 692. There is no mention of any of these folks in the HISTORY OF CHESTER COUNTY, by Futhey and Cope.....there were Maxwells and even Bingman/Bingaman, but none that fit. I checked on the Records and Archives online site, and they have, on record, administrative papers for an Abraham Maxwell, 1832, London Grove.......no will, but there are papers and an inventory. You may order those by mail....visit Records and Archives and you'll find out 'how to' get them. In the mean time, as you know the twp he lived in, this should be a clue as to where to be looking for the family - London Grove twp. I can't believe how many John Jacksons there were in Chester that AREN'T this John Jackson......nor did I find a Thomas Parke.....and, I wonder about a woman, Margaret Hayes, marring John Jackson, a man about 20 years her junior...this meant that she was 31 years older than his first wife, and 99 years old when husband John Jackson died..and she married again?....that can't possibly be correct if my math is anywhere near right! F& C say that Richard Hayes daughter, Margaret, m. Jeremiah Starr...no mention of an earlier marriage to John Jackson or anyone else, for that matter....there were several Margaret Hayes around in about the same time, either born as Hayes or married to Hayes. Bob, When I 'do' these transcriptions I post and enter them onto the site, as close to how they were found as I can....some people want to see the people enumerated around a certain name....thus, I don't think it wise to alphabetize or change any more than we have to.....but, thanks anyway. Barclay, I do not know Mary's maiden name or who William married but Henderson and Menough were members of the New London Presbyterian Church. Given that Grant was living in New London, it might be worth first focusing the search to members of the church with daughters named Mary. Just a hunch though...
