    3. >From the History of Chester County Lots more Chalfants following John CHALFANT, JOHN, obtained a warrant, 10, 22, 1701, for 250 acres of land in Rockland Manor, where he had settled two years previously. This was in what is now the lower part of Birmingham. He died in August, 1725, leaving sons, John and Robert. John, Jr., died about 1730, leaving sons, John, Solomon, and Robert, who appear to have been then grown up. The children of Robert, Sr., were Mary, b. Nov. 26, 1713, m. to ----- Shields; Elizabeth, b. Dec. 29, 1715, m. ----- Barnet; Robert, b. Aug. 28, 1718, died young; Thomas, b. Jan. 13, 1721, died young; Ruth, b. Oct. 15, 1723, m. to ----- Frame, ancestor of the late Robert Frame, of Birmingham; Robert, b. Feb. 12, 1725; Thomas, b. March 2, 1729. The father died in 1767, leaving a widow, Martha. Robert Chalfant, supposed a son of John, Jr., married first Ann Bentley, daughter of John and Mary Bentley, of Newlin, and settled on land in that township. A house, said to have been built in 1732, upon which were their initials, was torn down about 1864 by George Young, the present owner of the property. Ann (Bentley) Chalfant left children,- John, Mary (Bonnal), Jane (Few), Ann (Ligget), Robert, and Elizabeth (Quay). The father married a second wife, Elizabeth, by whom he had children,- Jesse, Joseph, and Jonathan. He died in 1792. Whether all of the name are descended from the John first mentioned is unknown. Of course there is the usual tradition of "three brothers" in this case. 3. You're confusing me with the dates, Betty.....in the subject you say John 1690 1725-29 .......does this mean that you believe John to have been born in 1690 and died between 1725 &29, and that his son was born in 1723?....Later, you say that John is living in West Marlborough in 1820, which seems pretty impossible (or at least highly improbable) It would also be helpful if you included how you know John came as a child, with uncle and cousins...often this is a clue as to know where to look. Also, a bit on William would be very helpful...wife? children? any dates? places? Here are adm papers for a John Chalfant.... CHALFANT JR, JOHN. November 14, 1730. Adm. to Solomon Chalfant. (Futhey and Cope say that this John was the son of the original Chalfant settler.....John...who settled in 1701, in Rockland Manor....his son John Jr, of the above probate record, had lons John, solomon and Robert, who appear to have been grown men at the tie of their father's death. There is more on other children and grandchildren, but no williams, There is mention of a Wm Chalfant who married Esther Baker and had 10 children,,,there are several other Wms in this line, but without more info from you I can't tell if any of them are possibles.) another John and another set of papers; CHALFANT, JOHN. West Bradford. April 3, 1775. Adm. to Ann Chalfant. S. " This John is my husband's ancestor who came to the colonies with his uncle Henry and two cousins. He was only ca 9 at the time. 3. Yes, this is the way to get everyone on the list to potentially be of help, although I, personally know nothing about things available for Montgomery Co....my best guess would be to join and then pose your questions to the Mont. Co gen list....and, to check the usgwarchives for Mont. Co, to see what has been submitted there in the past. As I've never researched in Mont. Co, my suggestions are very basic ones. I'm a bit confused so I may be wrong, but it seems as if you're saying that the ship's captain was Croation, and named Capt. Hugh Percy ....if so, I'm willing to bet real money that this fella was NOT a Croation. Hugh Percy is about an English as a name can get!(for some reason I can't access my CD on Immigration (contains mostly folks that had to take the oath upon arrival...that is, those Not from England, Scotland, Wales or Ireland.....I'll keep trying). I did a little looking and found that Capt Hugh Percy, master of the ship, Samuel, sailed out of London, and made 6 trips to Philadelphia, carrying folks from the Palantine...so, I think, if you can 'place' your family aboard his ship, you can be fairly sure they were Germans, from the Palatine....here's a good little explanation of what the Palantine was, where it was and why so many chose to leave. http://www.olivetreegenealogy.com/palatines/palatine-history.shtml I found the following, googling....if I were you I'd contact the individual on whose site I found it, to see his documentation and anything else he might have; Johann Herman Ache, born 1724; died 04 Feb 1815 in Marlborough Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. He married 469. Maria Paulina Puff. Maria Paulina Puff, born 02 Apr 1742 in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania; died 11 Dec 1817 in New Hanover Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of 938. Valentine Puff. Children of Johann Ache and Maria Puff are: ii. Catharine Ache, born Abt. 1765 in Marlborough Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania; married Adam Andreas 24 Jun 1783. http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/f/r/e/Gregg--D-Freese/GENE6-0012.html As you well know, you can't know how much validity to give something found on the internet unless you know the documentation FOR that data...no harm in asking. I also found this, which is probably what you found, too; MARRIAGE RECORD OF THE REFORMED CHURCH FALKNER SWAMP, MONTGOMERY COUNTRY, PA. 1783, June 24, Ache, Cathrina, and Adam Andreas. I can't find any wills for any of these folks, or even mentions, but did see quite a few Aches around new Hanover, Mont, Co, and quite a few Puffs in Moreland, Mont Co...so these might be good areas to explore. Thus, all this looks like you should be researching in Mont. Co, and not Chester for the origins of both the Andreas and Ache families`. S. I have written before about my ancestor Adam Andrew, born in 1760 and have been looking for his parents and nationality. Last weekend I searched hard on the internet and found some interesting items. One was the name of his wife, Catharine Ache, married to Adam Andreas at Falkner Swamp Reformed Church on June 24, 1783. And records in Chester Co. have their first child born in May 1784, in Chester County. Such a break for me. Next, I opened up all of PA and found their marriage located not in Chester Co., but in Montgomery County. It did not list any more info, such as parents. So I have concentrated in looking in Montgomery, Berks and Philadelphia Counties in the 1760's and have much yet to find. Do you have any suggestions on a souce such as your site, in Montgomery County? Also, I did find a ship named "Samuel" with a Capt. Hugh Percy from Rotterdam to Cowes to Philadelphia, arriving Aug. 11, 1732. There was on that list a 16 year old (single - no family) boy named Johan Adam Andreas. If this is Adam Andrew's father, the timing would be perfect, as I know he had older siblings, a John and a Philip, and the father would have been 44 in 1760 when Adam was born. The father died before 1765 when Adam's mother Mary (or Magdalen) is listed on tax lists with 50 acres in Pikeland Twp, Chester Co. I have not yet found the burial place, either in Montgomery Co. or Chester Co. From this data, I'm looking for a John Andreas or an older Adam Andreas, his marriage, his wife's surname, and still looking for the site of the younger Adam's baptism in some Reformed church. I may never be able to find their nationality since he came alone from Europe. It was a Croatian captian, so he could have come from that area, through Germany. The Johan may have been Jan. This info is from a Croatian friend who is familiar with that ship and captain.

    3. It's a good idea to actually include wills and documents....instead of just mentioning them. Remember, others may be also able to use the information and find links to their own families. The CD of PA wills doesn't include anything as late as 1830, so you might want to post those, in case it could help your fellow list members, now or later, through the archives. John Williamson, whose probate was filed in 1830, did not leave a will, but did have adm. papers AND an inventory, which I, personally, love to read... the next John Wiliamson was a good deal later...1855. She connected this through Gideon's will and other information she found. I haven't had a chance to check out a lot of your information since I found this out - knew you had a John Williamson dying in 1830 but other info didn't match up at that time - apparently Gideon left the Quakers for a time due to some war related help to others - but later went back - am still going over her new information - and am interested in your input on this - and can share my information and with her permission her side - our lines were brother and sister - children of John P and Mary Mathilda Tyson Williamson so we have connected all the later information at least on that line."

Have some information on at least one will /orphan's court proceedings and all the rest of the older Williamson info is new to me this week so am trying to get it into my data and be sure it fits with what I have - and now have to look back at info I had collected to see what now fits - will be adding new info in future postings - just following up on George Smedley's older post that now fits my line Thanks for your new information and help - will check my info to be sure I have the administration papers for John - know I ordered several documents a while back Susan ________________________________ From: Sandra Ferguson <[email protected]> To: Susan Maddox <[email protected]> Cc: [email protected] Sent: Sat, January 16, 2010 10:13:50 AM Subject: Williamson wills It's a good idea to actually include wills and documents....instead of just mentioning them. I'll include, below, what I find for the name Gideon Williamson up to1825 - as far as the CD covers.;                                                                                                 Sandra STRODE, MARY. "My new info ties into your early Williamson information you posted to me It appears that the distant relative in my Williamson line has connected our John Williamson who died in 1830 and was my brickwall - to Gideon Williamson's second wife Hannah Powell - John was married to Rebecca Rogers who later married George Chrisman.

    1. [PaOldC] "December'd"

    3. >>I've often seen the term December'd used in will abstracts, and wondered what, exactly, it meant......and, I've never been able to find it in a dictionary or listings of legal terms.  What I've 'heard', for what it's worth, is that the original will used dec'd as a shortcut for the word deceased, and someone simply misinterpreted it as December'd....makes sense to me.                                                                                                                  The only place I have ever seen this error is on the Broderbund CD "Pennsylvania Wills, 1682-1834" or in a citation based on info from that CD.  My best guess is that the error arose from OCR software that had in its database the equation "Dec.=December" and thus took "dec.'d" from the text that was being scanned and made the "logical" (to the computer anyhow!) substition.  I think this was put into the database so that the dates on the wills would say "December 15" or whatever, and it didn't occur to the programmer that "Dec." might appear in another context.  This would actually be a pretty good example for some kind of computer science class or other. I don't know whether the original wills used the abbreviation "dec.'d", but the abstracts in the books the CD was scanned from certainly did.  The abstracts were done "under the auspices of the Historical Society of Pennsylvania in the early 1900s" and then F. Edward Wright put them into books published by Family Line Publications.  If the books had used "dec'd" (without the period), I think this mistake would not have happened.   --Anne
