    1. SOUDERS, Honeybrook, Whiteland, Uwchlan area
    2. Diana Quinones
    3. Is anyone researching SOUDER/SOUDER/SAUTER of Honeybrook/Uwchlan/W Whiteland area? I have been looking for the maiden name of Barbara, wife of Jacob HIGH Jr, E Nantmeal, and found a will abstract for Eve SOUDERS, widow, Honeybrook, of 8/1/1820, proved 10/7/1820. I wonder if her daughter Barbara could be my Jacob HIGH's wife? She says: All estate to be sold and proceeds equally divided between my 6 children: Barbara wife of Jacob HYE, Henry, Jacob, Philip and John SOUDERS, and Mary, wife of Nathan GRIFFITH. Jacob to have $50 in addition to his equal share. Son-in-law Nathan GRIFFITH to have option of the house at appraised value. Execs: Henry and Philip, sons. Wits: Alexander Kennedy and Nathan Griffith (No letters granted) An intestate file for her husband, Jacob SOUDERS, W Whiteland of 11/13/1805 exists and letters of admin were granted to Eve and Henry SOUDERS. He left a widow Eve and 7 children: Barbara m Jacob ---, Jacob, Henry, Philip, John, Mary and Samuel. I believe this Jacob SOUDERS is a son of Henry SOUDER, E Whiteland, whose will was written 1794, probated 1811, after codicil filed in 12/13/1805, that the executor he named, his oldest son Jacob, had died. He left money to Mathew Pennypacker for the poor of the Mennonite Church in Charlestown, and named sons and daus Jacob, Henry, Magdalene WIREMAN, Elisabeth MIM, Mary RUTH, Esther, Susanna FISHER and Barbara. He names 2 sons-in-law Christian FISHER and Henry RUTH. A WorldTree file shows this Henry SOUDER with dates 7/1722-10/25/1811 E Whiteland, wife Barbara STAUFFER 1724 -1791, and among his children a son Jacob born 9/28/1747, but there is no information on son Jacob's family as described in the wills above. The Tree shows later surname conversion to SAUTER. The Jacob HIGH that I have, is son of Jacob HIGH Sr and wife Elizabeth. The latter died 1812 in E Nantmeal. His son Jacob, Jr received some of his land, and in 8/1814 he sold parts of it and in the deed, his wife was shown as Barbara. In that deed, John SOUDERS witnessed/certified it with a Michael LYNCH, both JPs for the recording. I estimate that Jacob HIGH was prob born abt early to mid1760s as he was in Militia units in 1780 and 1781 under Col Thomas BULL. His father Jacob High Sr was born in late 1720s - c12/1812. So I am 'fishing' to see if anyone knows anything about the SOUDERS who died 1803 and 1820 and their children's ages. Jacob HIGH Jr was a brother of my gr3grandmother Maria HIGH (1763-1831)who m Henry LANDIS. There are SOUDERS buried at Brownback Reformed. Does anyone know who? In 1790 Census: Henry SOUDERS is in E Whiteland 1-1-3 Jacob SOUDERS is in W Whiteland 2-4-3 on line 22 which is in Uwchlan. In 1800 CR Henry SOUDERS is in age bracket over 45, in Treddyfrin Township with family. In 1830 Henry SOUDERS is shown under licensed taverns in E Whiteland. Thanks anyone...... Diana in AL

    1. Re: [PaOldC] Re: Wm. & Isabella Mitchell (both d. 1758, Sadsbury);son John, bro Samuel;sis, Jean; Margaret Lackey -Need Help With This Family!
    2. Wayne County Jeanne
    3. Violet - I was aware of the Margaret Lackey in NC who was alive at the time of William Mitchell's Will of 1758. I hadn't found any Margaret Lackey in other counties near Sadsbury in PA during that time period. And I had wondered if, perhaps, he was referring to Margaret of NC. If so, the coincidence of his Will being proven in Sadsbury, Chester Co., PA is amazing. In regard to Jean Mitchell being the grandmother of Margaret Lackey, her married name is unknown. If she were my line then her married name would be Lackey and she would be Alexander's mother since his wife's mother was Ann Rowan who was wife of James Cochran (the Cochranville, Chester Co., PA, Cochrans who migrated from Scotland) and daughter of Cornelius and Ann Rowan who emigrated from Ireland to Chester Co., PA. From Ancestry.com there is an Annie Dashiell, daughter of James Dashiell and Mary Waters of Somerset Co.(?), MD, who married an Alexander Lackey. I thought the Margaret Lackey of NC was from this branch of Lackey's and Dashiell's. Then information from a site on the internet I found somone had listed Mary Waters as the first wife of this James Dashiell, with Annie listed as the daughter....but then they had a second wife, Isabel Mitchell who was born and died in Somerset Co., MD. The coincidence of names is amazing. I haven't yet gotten in touch with the author on that one. Although Margaret Lackey of NC is not the daughter of my Alexander and Ann Lackey. (His wife on her court documents always spelled it Lecky), I have wondered if they are related. On the other hand, there are other Lackey's. There's an Alexander Lackey in Lancaster Co., PA. There was a Henry Lackey in Cumberland Co., PA. There were Lackey's in a couple of other close PA counties. But I've found nothing to indicate connections, although "Alexander" seemed to have been a popular name with all of them. Wish I could help you but as I said in my previous email, what I had written was all I knew about my Alexander Lackey. In the future, though, if I do find additional information - which I think would only be the result of actually researching in person and which I don't plan to do for a couple of years - I will let you know. One other wrinkle regarding Alexander Lackey of Chester Co., PA. The tombstone in the Upper Octorara Presbyterian Cemetery at Parkesburg has the death date of 27 Apr 1747 BUT the name transcribed on that tombstone is "Alexander Luckey." Speaking from experience, old tombstones are often notoriously hard to read, however. I can verify, however, in the Orphans Court proceedings that my Alexander Lackey did die in 1747. It is mentioned in the proceedings from 17 June 1747, pages 5-3 and 5-4 (the Orphans Court records are on Ancestry.com). Also, other people on Ancestry.com show that Alexander Lackey was born in West Fallowfield, Chester Co., PA. But I can find no mention of Lackey, Leckey, or Lecky in Chester County tax lists, etc. Now that I think of it I do remember a Robert Luckey....I'll have to look into that again. Please let me know if I can help you, even with my very limited knowledge of Lackey's, Jeanne Delaney ----- Original Message ----- From: "Violet Guy" <guyj@starpower.net> To: <PA-OLD-CHESTER-L@rootsweb.com>; "Wayne County Jeanne" <wcjeanne@sbcglobal.net> Sent: Thursday, August 31, 2006 9:50 PM Subject: Re: [PaOldC] Re: Wm. & Isabella Mitchell (both d. 1758, Sadsbury);son John, bro Samuel;sis, Jean; Margaret Lackey -Need Help With This Family! > Jeanne: > > I am interested in your LACKEY Family, because in the Quaker Wrightsboro > Settlement, Georgia, where the LACKEY name appears and it is associated > with > MOORE and other Surnames of extreme interest to us. 1. surname Bob
    2. Sandra Ferguson
    3. from a lookup in early court records,,,1697-1710 The only mention I find is of a law suit between Peter Bob, plaintiff and Timothy Atkinson.....there is no mention of WHAT this suit was about, and there was no declaration...the court said that the" papers delivered were imperfect and the court orders a non-suit." This was in 1700, and no further papers were filed (through 1710), so I reckon Peter Bob just let it drop. Sandra -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition. 2. Sandra Ferguson
    3. I doubt there is any sort of an answer to this question, George. I'm sure, in some cases Hibbard may also be included in records as Hibberd...after all, there's only one letter difference. I'd also think Hibbert, Hibbart, Hibert, Hibart, Hebbert, Hibbert might also be found as the same name. You know how these things go - there's no telling HOW clerks and record takers will chose to spell a name. Remember, records don't necessarily reflect how the individual spelled his name (only his signature will do that) -a record only shows how the CLERK chose to spell it! Of course, Goggle also has its unique entries. So both are worthwhile, IMHO. 2. Sandra et al Dismant cemetery is just outside Royersford, off of 4th ave., near the VFW Post. It is a walled and gated cemetery maintained by a church in Collegeville-may be Presbyterian or Reformed. It is an interesting cemetery with many old burials. One in particular I believe to be a Munshower grave has the inscription : "Remember me as you pass by; as you are now so once was I; as I am now so you must be; prepare for death and follow me" Steve -------------- Original message -------------- From: "Sandra Ferguson" <ferg@ntelos.net> > I googled Dismant cemetery and found one listed under Montgomery Co, near > Phoenixville. 1. Re: [PaOldC] Cadawalader WATKINS, son, Robert WATKINS m. Margaret _______
    2. Sandra Ferguson
    3. I looked through the CD of area wills, and there is no will, or set of adm papers that mentions, in any way, the name Cadwalader (any spelling) Watkins...this includes Chester and Phil Cos. There is no will for Robert, either. Reec/Rees/Rice/Reese?Rhyes, etc are all spellings of the same, very common Welsh name..which, because of the patronymic naming system, is found commonly as both given and surname. However, the way this Welsh naming system works is not an arbitrary naming of children, but rather, the taking of the father's given name as the surname of the children...Thus, with this in mind, the children of Robert Watkins would be named Moses, Robert, Benjamin, Reace [Rise, Rhys] and Margaret Roberts. The Reece could certainly be a family name, but whether from a given or surname, maternal or paternal, is impossible to say. If Robert Watkins had been named patronymic (with a father named Cadwalader Watkins),his name would have been Robert Cadwalader). Patronymic naming only involves the father's name and the surname of his children. I checked THE HISTORY OF CHESTER COUNTY PA, by Futhey & Cope for both Watkins, with no luck...so, I'm battin' zero today, I'm afraid. Sandra Cadawalader ["Cadd", Cadwallader] WATKINS, a widower, had immigrated circa 1700 from [possibly Dolghollau] WALES... with his very young son, Robert, who was apparently an only child ...to Chester Co. PA. Our information is that at one time Cadd shared a property lne with William Penn. *S* I can find Robert on the Tax Lists for 1725 and 1727, but by that time Cadd may have moved to Philadelphia, or had passed on. My records indicate that Cadd died in Philadelphia PA. -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition. 2. Lisa Grimes
    3. Good morning to all, It's been a very long time since I've hunted this line... but I thought that I would take a few minutes this morning to post looking for other cousins...also researching this line. As our family information has it: Cadawalader ["Cadd", Cadwallader] WATKINS, a widower, had immigrated circa 1700 from [possibly Dolghollau] WALES... with his very young son, Robert, who was apparently an only child ...to Chester Co. PA. Our information is that at one time Cadd shared a property lne with William Penn. *S* I can find Robert on the Tax Lists for 1725 and 1727, but by that time Cadd may have moved to Philadelphia, or had passed on. My records indicate that Cadd died in Philadelphia PA. Robert WATKINS m. Margaret ______, and had several children, six sons including, Moses, Robert, Benjamin, Reace [Rise, Rhys] with the last child and only daughter, Margaret. The above is from memory....so I'm sure that there's a more precise amount of data in my files. *S* My line happens to be Reace [Reech, Reese, Rise, Rhys], who moved over to Augusta Co. VA and married Sarah BARBER. His sister Margaret m. George BARBER [Jr]. George was a brother to my Sarah BARBER [m. Reace WATKINS]. By the "rule" of Welsh Patronymics....I have often felt that "Reace" had been brought forward from either Robert or his wife Margaret, and may give an indication as to the surname for Cadd's late wife, or Robert's wife Margaret, or may have been Cadd's father's first name. So many options. *S* So...I'm hunting my cousins to see what their hypothesis, or research, has for trying to narrow the options. Wishing all the very best success, Lisa Grimes -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition. Version: 7.1.405 / Virus Database: 268.11.5/426 - Release Date: 8/23/2006

Beerbower's Co, in the war of 1812.....he is listed on the roll on 10-11-1814. There are several Stubblebines...David and Lewis lived in the 1830s+, and Wm in the 1840s. He was an interesting character, being a member of the Battle-Axes, a strange religious sect....apparently in 1844 some were arrested and convicted...apparently Wm died in this faith, and and in the case of Snyder Vs Stubblebine, the validity of his will was questioned because of his membership....(it's principles were essentially those known as 'free love'...no wives and husbands, etc.) I looked up all the names in the will CD, and found a Sebastian STophelbine acting as the adm to the will of Conrad Snider, in Coventry, 1794.
