    3. On September 1st Diana from AL asked if anyone was researching SOUDER/SOUDERS/SAUTER of Honeybrook/Uwchlan/W Whiteland area. I did not reply because I had no information to add to what she had written. Diane was asking if anyone knew anything about Jacob SOUDERS of W. Whiteland who died in 1805 and his wife EVE who died in 1820. Their daughter Barbara is shown as the wife of Jacob HYE and she wondered if Barbara was the same as Barbara, wife of Jacob HIGH, Jr. of E. Nantmeal. Eve SOUDERS will mentions 6 children but Diana mentioned that when Jacob died he left his widow EVE and 7 children. The one named with Jacob and not with Eve is Samuel. I have been trying to connect my husband's gr gr grandfather Samuel SOUDERS (born about 1811) to Philip SOUDERS, one of the sons of Jacob and Eve. They are listed together in the 1840 W. Whiteland census but by 1850 Samuel is in Montgomery County and I can't find Philip. When I saw the name Samuel on the list of Jacob and Eve's children it gave me hope that I may be on the right track I had not seen that name connected with this family before. Diana, were the children listed in the intestate file for Jacob? I have a list of gravestone inscriptions from Brownback's Cemetery from the 1956 issues of the "National Genealogical Society Quarterly" but only one SOUDERS is listed on that - Mary Ann, w. of Jacob Souders, b. 17 Sept. 1839; d. 24 Feb. 1883. I'm sorry I can't be of help to you, Diana, but thank you for the clue about the name Samuel. Mabel in MT

    3. I reckon the answer is 'yes' .......although you've got Margery's birth time about a generation off and a few other errors. Margery Mendenhall, b 1655, m 30 Jan 1675, Thomas Martin, at Reading and Warboro Meeting. Margery was the child of Thomas and Joan Strode (or Stroad), both of whom were born in Marridge Hill, Parish Ramsbury,Wistshire. Her parents are believed to be Wm Strode and Joanna Barnard Strode. Thomas Mendenhall's father was Francis Mendenhall, but his mother is not known. Francis was buried 7 Nov 1673, in Little Bedwin, County Wiltshire, England. (this is from THE MENDENHALL-NEWLIN ALLIANCE, by Able. Futhey and Cope list Lydia Buffington as having married George Martin, but not which wife was the mother. His first wife was Ann, living in 1695...a wife Francis, widow of John Grubb, living in 1712, and his widow, Alice Palmer, survived him. Thomas Woodward, m. 25th 10m 1704, at Concord Meeting, Rachel Martin, dau of Thomas and Margery Mendenhall Martin. His father was Richard Woodward, b ca 1636, probably in Cheshire, England and died 7 oct 1706, Middletown...married to Jane NAYLE, not Petty,,,, it is believed that Richard was the son of Edward Woodward, of Acton Parish,Cheshire, who was the progenitor of the line of Woodwards in Chester....however, the Register of Acton Parish is somewhat confusing, so Edward as father of our 'clan' of Woodwards, is subject to verification. Sandra "Was Margery Mendenhall a daughter or Thomas Mendenhall b. ab 1630 Wiltshire, England, and Joan Stround? They had a daughter named Margery, of whom I have no other info. Was Lydia Buffington a daughter of Richard Buffington b. abt 1654 England and one of his three wives? If so, which of the three was her mother? 3. However, where you owned land has nothing to do with where your will goes through probate....which, in this case, was Chester Co...where he also lived. Any land he owned in other counties would be included in his will, WHEREVER it was located. S. 2. Sandra Ferguson
    3. Nope, I'm not working on the Martin line.....I simply answered what I could to the query about Thomas Martin and I'm afraid I'm not even quite sure what it is you're asking....if it's who owned the house you live in, then that would be in the land records, wouldn't it? I'd think you would follow the 'trail' in that way.......for instance, to whom did the George and Lydia leave the land/house you own to at their death? (hopefully they left it to children rather than selling it)...if left to children, you'd then check to see if the names 'match' up. Generally you go to whatever facility it is that holds the land records, and go step by step, from one owner to the next, looking at the name and date (at least that's how I've personally done it.....to find the 'history' of one piece of land). I checked the 1756 Chester Archives, and note 3 George Martins and 2 George Martens...so, you 'takes your pick'! George Marten owned 25 acres i West Bradford George Marten lived in Charlestown but owned no land George Martin an inmate in East Bradford George Martin lived in Newlin but owned no land George Martin an inmate in Birmingham Here is a will with a Buffington/Martin tie-in; BUFFINGTON, JOHN, bachelor. Newlin.February 18, 1762. March 25, 1762.To brother Thomas Buffington my plantation in West Bradford containing 120 acres now in tenure of Joseph Martin, also personal estate. To sister Mary Cremer 5 shillings. To sister Sarah Buffington 5 shillings. Executor: Brother Thomas.Witnesses: George Martin, tanner, and George Martin. I believe I sent you this will last time, but here it is again....this is not the complete will, so did you get an actual copy from Records and Archives? I sure would....you never know what it might tell you. MARTIN, GEORGE. W. Bradford.December 28, 1774. May 17, 1782.To sons Joseph, John and James and daughters Rachel Hannings, Lydia Dilworth, Mary Woods and Elizabeth Chaffin, 5 shillings each. Mentions having provided for daughter Ann by giving 1/2 of the purchase money of his real estate in Trust for her use. All remainder to wife Mary, also executrix. Wit: Hum'y. Marshall, William England, Christopher Dalton. Have you tried to find these folks in local mm records? If they were Friends, they should be in the records. Futhey and Cope say that the George Martin, son of Thomas and Margery Mendenhall Martin, settled in West Bradford, a little northwest of Marshalton, where he died 6-22-1780.(see his will, above). His children were Joseph, John, James, George, Rachel (m to John Hennings), Lydia (m to James Dilworth), Mary (m ? Wood), and Elizabeth (m to Joseph Passmore and James Chalfant.) This family seems to have stayed put in W. Bradford, and not in Schuylkill..(but, you need to research the folks in Schuylkill). Sandra "Are you working on the Martin line? You may recall about a year ago I sought help with the George and Lydia Martin family as I live in a house built in 1743 by a George and Lydia Martin. The house is just outside of Valley Forge Park in Schuylkill Township, Chester county. I would love to confirm that this is the George and Lydia Buffington Martin you mention as I am descended from Lydia Buffington's sister Ann. It seems as if George and Lydia (Buffington) Martin were in East or West Bradford in the mid 1700's. Rather than here in Schuylkill. Geo. and Lydia Martin of Schuylkill were Quakers, they raised their family here. George died in 1777 or 8. His son James became owner, buying out the interest of siblings including a Bro. You can get a copy from Records and Archives...the mailing address is on the Chester site, under COUNTY DATA, and a subheading of County Resources....you'll have to ask the price, as it's been a while since I ordered one and the price may well have gone up. The will is recorded in Chester Co, and went through Probate in Chester, so I have no idea why it's would be would be said to have been in Philadelphia Co.....the CD I quoted is wills of MANY counties, including Phil. Co AND Chester ...plus a good many others. Apparently your original data about the will was just incorrect, for whatever reason...... Sandra . "s it possible to get a copy of this will? 1. [PaOldC] JOSEPH GIBSON & ALICE JACKSON
    2. Sandra Ferguson
    3. I felt sure, as these folks were from Ireland, that they would be mentioned in the book of the Immigration of the Irish Quakers to PA 1682-1750, but no mention of them. There is note of an Alice Gibson in the New Garden MM records, as having come from Ireland, and was received 6mo 30, 1729....but, no mention of husband. I looked in the marriage records of the New Garden meeting, 1704-1799, and while there are mentions of the given names Alice, Allice, Ann, Isaac, Joseph and Thomas, there are no marriages for any of them in this meeting (Dang!) (the only mention of a Joseph was at the marriage of Robert Pyle and Deborah Jackson)....1748....from the position of the names of the guests at the marriage, I think the mother may have been Mary Jackson....the father was Saml. Jackson, who was dead by this time.) I looked for an Alice Jackson in area wills, with no luck in the right time frame. Here is Joseph's will (there is a son Joseph, but Alice seems as if she might be a granddaughter. the daughter of Ann Gibson Clark) GIBSON, JOSEPH. West Nantmeal.March 27, 1764. April 16, 1764.To wife Alice 1/3 of all estate. To daughter Ann Clark £50. To son Isaac £40. To daughter Rebecca £60. To son Joseph £40. To son Thomas £40. To son John £90 with 3 acres of wheat. To son James £40. To son Moses £70. To granddaughter Alice Clark £5.Executors: Sons Isaac and John.Witnesses: William Nisbet, Robert Brown. (I've been looking through the wills and note that there is a Thomas Gibson who is apparently NOT your Thomas....he is the son of Christian...so, beware....not everything you may find on these folks may be about YOUR folks) There is no mention of Joseph, Isaac or Thomas in THE HISTORY OF CHESTER COUNTY, by Futhey and Cope. There are lots of Gibsons included in the 1764 Chester Archives ; An Isaac lived in West Nantmeal, but owned no land.; a Joseph also lived n W. Nantmeal but owned no land; 2 Thomases - 1 (probably the one you want, lived but owned no land in W. Nantmeal and; 2, owned 100 acres in West Marlborough. There is also listed a Widow Gibson, who I imagine might be Joseph's widow.....she owns 750 acres in West Nantmeal. Sandra -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition.
