    3. Rich, The Margaret Hague mentioned here can't be yours, since she died in 1895, but maybe look at the parents (George and Sarah Hague) and go back to earlier generations. "Hague, Mary A. Mary A. Hague died at her residence on the Bethlehem pike in Upper Dublin township, last Thursday evening. The deceased was in her eighty-ninth year and was exceedingly helpless, having dislocated her hip two years ago last November. The natural consequence of old age together with the shock of her sister's death the Monday previous laid her very low and hastened forward the end, which would surely soon have come under the most favorable circumstances. She was the second oldest of the family of seven children of George and Sarah Hague. An account of the family was given in last week's Gazette when a notice of the death of a sister, Margaret Hague, was published. Mary did not live to see her sister buried, as the interment of Margaret took place on Saturday afternoon. With the death of Mary Hague the family passes away, there being no direct descendant, as Joseph, the only one to marry, left no children. The old Hague family has been a part of the history of this neighborhood for considerably over 100 years. The estate left is of great value, for besides the farm of about ninety acres in Upper Dublin township, it is believed that the Hagues had an income from other sources besides. The remains of the deceased were interred in the family lot at St. Thomas' Episcopal church, Whitemarsh, on Tuesday. [Source: Ambler Gazette, March 21, 1895, p. 2. 3. Looking for information on Sarah (Susan) Hull, b. 1759, d. 1836. Married James Bankson, 1783. The marriage was performed by the Rev. Siegfried Gerock, minister of Zion Lutheran in Baltimore. James served in the Revolution in the Maryland Line, and later as a privateer on the ship "Viper" out of Boston. He was imprisoned in Mill Prison in England from 1781-1782. James was a descendant of Anders Bengtsson, 1640-1705 who was one of the early Swedish settlers in Pennsylvania. I have been unable to learn anything about Sarah Hull. Some of the Bankson family associates were living in the Welsh Tract, so there may have been connections there. I find a David Hull and Rachel Hull in Vol. 1 of "Early Church Records of New Castle County, Delaware" and a Sarah and Elizabeth Hull in Vol. 2, but these do not seem to match my Sarah. Does anyone have records of the Hull family in Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, or Maryland? Many thanks! Martha Lyle

    3. from a lookup in early court records; Robert Aston, by his attorney David Loyd, delivered a deed to Lewis Williams for 402 acres dated 2, December, 1704. Has anyone done any research in Mifflin Co, or have any Mifflin Co records they could share with me? We've found an ancestor from there....John Beatty, who owned land in Mifflin Co, and whose will went through Mifflin probate in 1823. His daughter, Eleanor, was my many times grandmother, and married George Baxter, in the York Co congregation of Rev. Cathcart, a Seceder Presbyterian minister. I'm totally unfamiliar with Mifflin Co, so will appreciate any tips you can share with me....it looks like a trip to Lewistown is 'in the stars' for me this spring, and I'm tickled pink....it's been a long time since we've had a real live name to follow up on. 3. Abraham left no will, but there are adm. papers........the file is dated 1832, and his place of residence was London Grove. There is also an inventory included which is always so interesting...to see the things our ancestors lived with. You may obtain a copy of his papers from Archives and Records....their online address is in the last paragraph of the intro , on the Chester Co site....it is discussed in your Welcome Email. Records and Archives is a wonderful place and you need to see what all they DO offer that might be a help to you! Jacob left no will or papers at his death......through 1900. There is no mention of Abraham in THE HISTORY OF CHESTER CO, by Futhey and Cope. Marriage records weren't kept until around 1885, (except for a few years in the 1850s)all too late to have Abraham's. Death records kept at the county level are even later - close to 1900 if memory serves. So, the only place you'll find these dates will be in church records, I'm afraid. (a little hint....it's always wise to place a FULL name and some sort of date, as your subject...many folks only read posts that interest them, and delete any that don't...plus, lots of folks surf the archives, looking for names of interest to them, so it's always a good idea to get our FULL name of interest "out there", anywhere we possibly can....peppering the internet with it is, to coin Martha, "a good thing"!) 3. The book GENEALOGY OF THE JACKSON FAMILY, The Authentic History of Ephraim Jackson, The First Emigrant to America, 1687 and his Descendants, compiled by Israel Ernest Jackson of Boston, MA states in a footnote on page 14: "Nathan Jackson - dismissed by Society of Friends 11-25-1741/2 for marriage to one not a member." The only citation for the footnote is the research by Joseph A. Jackson. Since my original query about Nathan Jackson, I have been unsuccessful in contacting either Ernest Jackson or Joseph Jackson to find the source of the statement which is probably from a MM. As a descendant of Nathan Jackson of Guilford, Randolph and Rowan Counties in North Carolina I believe Nathan, son of Ephraim and Rachel, is probably the same Nathan in NC. Nathan appears on a Rowan County Poll Tax List with his son Edward in 1759. His neighbors in NC were Hollingsworths, Noblets, Mendenhalls, Chaffins and others from Chester County, PA who had traveled the Great Wagon Road southward into VA and onward to NC in the mid-1700s. His children and grandchildren married into the forementioned families in NC. Even though Nathan's family does not appear in MM records in NC, neither he nor any of his sons in NC participated on either side in the Revolutionay War, probably holding to the Quaker attitude toward war. Nathan is believed to have died before 1790 because he does not appear on the 1790 NC census. Hopefully, the sameness of these two Nathans can be proven or disproven in time. 3. Yes, I did grow up in Chester, but you have to remember that for anyone researching in the earlier part of the history of Chester County, those things are in the present Delaware County since that was also Chester County back then.  Both my Baker and Cobourn ancestors arrived here in 1683 and others not much later.  I also had the advantage of growing up in a house where genealogy and history were a part of my everyday existence as we lived in a multigenerational household with my grandfather, Chester F. Baker, who did extensive genealogical research on Chester/Delaware counties and many of the early families in the area.  I believe that his research is now housed with the Delaware County Historical Society, though I have copies of anything that pertains to my particular lines.  He worked on the restoration of the Caleb Pusey house, in present Delaware County, and a number of other projects.  Our Sunday afternoons (and sometimes our Saturdays) were spent visiting historical sites in both counties and so though I don't know exactly what is there today in terms of lodging and dining, put me back in the 1700s and I feel right at home. Thanks for your suggestions. I'll add them to the list and let everyone know when the new section has been added to the website. For anyone doing research in Chester County, you could point them in an unexpected direction - the library at the Springford Historical Society, which is located in Royersford, Montgomery County, PA. They have records from Spring City, which *is* in Chester County, as well as Montgomery County records for the surrounding townships. http://www.springcitypa.net/sfahs/ Then there's always the Coventry Tea Room, near the intersection of Routes 23 and 100 in South Coventry township. It's in a historic old house near the "village" (and I use that term loosely!) of Bucktown. Owen J. Roberts High School would be the nearest point of reference. http://mysite.verizon.net/vze7c4gn/index.html Coventryville itself is a neat place to look at wonderful old houses; cannot go in any of them but just a drive down what was the original Route 23 is great. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coventryville_Historic_District There are no places to eat traveling north on Route 100 from Route 401 until you approach Pottstown. There are also no places to eat traveling east on Route 724 from the Coventry Mall to Phoenixville. If I think of anything else, will write - Barbara --- On Mon, 3/2/09, Jane Unger <[email protected]> wrote: > From: Jane Unger <[email protected]> > Subject: [PaOldC] Research Ideas for Chester County > To: [email protected] > Date: Monday, March 2, 2009, 8:21 AM > I am the webmaster for the Chester County PaGenWeb site and > am in the process of a majoy re-do of the site.
