Thanks, George, that was very interesting. Two of Thomas Hood's daughters, Anne and Martha, married two of Richard Bonsall's sons, Enoch and Jacob.? (Richard's wife was Mary Wood, daughter of George Wood.) Enoch Bonsall and his wife Anne Hood had a son, Joseph Bonsall, who married his double first cousin, Lydia, daughter of Jacob Bonsall and Martha Hood. Joseph and Lydia had a daughter, Martha Bonsall, who married Moses Wells.? I am trying to find out more information about Moses and Martha, in particular about their daughter, Esther Wells, who married William Robinson, and about Esther's daughter, Martha Bonsall Robinson, who married Archibald Frazier on 2 September 1830. Suggestions as to online sources are most welcome!? I can't get to the library or to PA to do more thorough research, unfortunately, so I doubly appreciate the insights and help of my fellow listers. He will also include a digital map, showing the Lot layout. This will mean a researcher could locate the person in which they are interested, record the lot number, look at the map and know exactly where to locate the grave on a physical visit. I looked in THE HISTORY OF CHESTER COUNTY PA, by Futhey and Cope, and the earliest entry I find is for after the Am. Rev. War, where Ralph was requesting reparation for loses in Goshen Twp during the war I looked in IMMIGRATION OF THE IRISH QUAKERS INTO PA 1682-1750, by Myers, but he must have emigrated sometime after the dates included in the book, as there was no mention of Ralph. (However, I think you'll find that if he was indeed a Quaker who emigrated from Ireland, he was NOT Irish. This term often confuses people unfamiliar with the fact that the Irish were Catholics, and I've never read of someone of Irish descent, becoming a Quaker and emigrating to PA. The so-called Irish Quakers were, in reality, generally Englishmen and women who had moved to Ireland in an attempt to escape the religious persecution that went on there...however, it was as bad in Ireland as in England - thus the move to the Quaker Commonwealth established by Wm Penn. So, while the Quakers may have lived in Ireland, they were definitely NOT Irish! Another distinct possibility is that he was a Scots Irish...that is, a protestant who was of Scottish descent and the family lived in Ireland, before emigrating. In either case, neither were Irish...just happened to live there. I looked in all my mm records and find nothing for Ralph...nor a marriage or even attending the marriage of others. What sort of documentation do you have that he was a Quaker? It would be helpful to know that, as a clue to know where to look next. Futhey and Cope give no indication that they were Quakers. the 1765 Chester Archives ; Forrister, Ralph. owned 66 acres in Goshen twp, had 1 horse, 3 cows and 5 sheep I'm including, below, the extracted bio inFuthey and Cope's history; (You'll note that he was not married to a Hemphill..wife was well documented as Tamer Gregory) ...Ralph Forrester...from Ireland...m Tamer Gregory, dau John and Mary Gregory, of Caln twp. October 15, 1796. Adm. to Catharine Forrester and Randal Malin. I couldn't find a will or adm papers for Aaron Forrester/Forester/Forrister, before around 1835, or any mention other than in Ralph's bio. I found the following, in a biography written by Joseph Townsent; "THe school house was built of logs and filled in with mortar, and furnished with a few tables and benches. (John Townsend) employed Ralph Forrester as a teacher of the school. He occupied the old dwelling of David Haines till the son came of age,....The teacher was an Irishman and had married Tamer Gregory after his arrival in this country. They with their family had resided for some years previous near Goshen meetinghouse." (this doesn't sound as if Ralph was a Quaker....generally they were referred to as Friends, or even Irish Quakers or Irish Friends...but not Irishmen). Sandra "My Ralph Forrester lived in Chester County early times and can be found in all the records. What I have never seen is...where was he buried when he passed on? He was married to Sarah Hemphill and they were both of Irish descent and Quakers. He was also once a teacher. I am from their line via Aaron Forrester."
You need to always include some sort of a date with any query.....what were 'early times' is a subjective thing - what seems early to some may seem 'late' to someone else, so a date, even if approximate, must always be part of any query. After you send that along, we'll go from there. Sandra "My Ralph Forrester lived in Chester County early times and can be found in all the records. Futhey and Cope, in THE HISTORY OF CHESTER COUNTY, say the children of George and Mary Baily Harlan were John m Sarah Wickersham; Rebecca m Stephen White; Dinah m Robert Davies; Hannah m Joseph Martin; Joel 1724-1796; Michael; George m Susannah Harlan. Have you researched using the spelling Davies, too? The name Davis has a tendency to be spelled interchangeably with David and Davies, in Chester. S. Thank you, Sandra. I really wish I could make another trip back there soon. I really need to find some good OLD maps and there are lots of deeds to copy. It looks like a little bit more digging may turn up both the location of the Hayes farm my mother remembers visiting as a small child and the farm where her ggg-grandmother Ann [Hayes] Keepers was born. I really went into this because she tried to find the Mordecai/Jacob/J. Carroll Hayes farm two years ago when we were in Chester County and she couldn't find it. I would like to locate it for her as she has fond childhood memories of it. If I can also find her ggg-grandmother's birthplace while I'm researching Hayes property transactions, then all the better. She had given up on that line of research. Thank you to everyone who has responded. Thank you, Robbyn~ I noticed the deed indexes last night. I'll have to work on them. I appreciate your checking your records. I'm aware of how prominent the Hayes family was in Chester County and am hoping that someone on list has done research on them. Apparently, J. Carroll Hayes was my great grandfather's best friend. He was also a very distant cousin of my grandmother (the daughter-in-law of said ggf) although they didn't know it at that time. I'll see if I have anything in my land files. They often come up in my work. Robbyn Kehoe On Jul 29, 2009, at 3:49 PM, [email protected] wrote: > > Today's Topics: > > 1. By 1693 Charles Hedges and his younger brother Joseph, as well as Olle's own children, were in the household of Olle Thomasson. Charles was indentured to Olle Jan of 1679/9 at the age of 5 and both he and brother Joseph were listed as adults in Christiana hundred on a 1701 tax list. Both were closely associated with other members of the Christiana Congregation.....this from the 1693 Census of Swedes on the Delaware, by Craig, who has also written THE COLONIAL DESCENDANTS OF WILLIAM AND MARY HEDGES (1988).) S.
The 1765 Chester Archives; Irish, Geo owned 50 acres in Pikeland...had 1 horse but no other stock. There are no area wills that contain any of the spellings you included and a few of my own. None of the name spellings appear in Futhey and Cope's History of Chester Co, nor on the tax assessment of Pikeland in 1747. I'm afraid I've batted about zero. S, "I am searching for information about George Irey. I. His surname was spelled variously: Irish, Erich, Freick, Lirish, Earch, Eyrick and Iresh."
For anyone to try to be of help using their own resources, you need to include some given names and dates to go with surnames, which really aren't enough to go on. So, if you'll post that additional info, perhaps someone can add to your knowledge....or, are you simply looking for descendants, rather than info? I am searching for any descendants the Riale and Null families - often associated with Cooper, Hendricks, Jackson and McKain. Anyone interested can go to my website as see if we have any connections. I am searching for information about George Irey. I believe that he immigrated to this country in mid 1700. I found him in the Chester Co., Pikeland township land records from 1765 t0 1771. His surname was spelled variously: Irish, Erich, Freick, Lirish, Earch, Eyrick and Iresh. He is in the 1790 census and the 1800 census. Does anyone have any information to share? Beverly Lowry
