    2. Bruce Fosnocht
    3. Alan, I bought GenSmarts many years ago, and I liked it quite a lot. I found it very useful for my research in America. I don't use it much anymore, because I have pushed enough of my lines across to Europe, and I'm concentrating on European research. When I had GenSmarts, I also had a subscription to Ancestry. The Gensmarts program would give me a list of yet-undone research tasks for each of my ancestors. I could click on any of these tasks and it would automatically go to Ancestry and retrieve whatever records were there regarding that ancestor. I highly recommend it. 2. Sandra Ferguson
    3. Here are a few things that truly qualify as bits of Quaker trivia...from F&C.. The Howell James Meeting. In 1709 the "ffriends about ye Iron Hills", near Elk River, were allowed to have a meeting once a month at the house of Howell James. In 1714 it was allowed to be held every First-day, but in 1716, after the death of Howell James, it was discontinued. The Lampeter Meeting, at first called Leacock, was established at Hattill Varman's house, in Leacock, in 1732. In 1749, a new location was found , to which the meeting was removed. The Stanton Meeting, in New Castle Co, Del, was first held at the house of Hannah Lewden, at Christians Bridge, about 1772. The Cambridge Meeting was first held about 1825, but "no particulars have been obtained"

Because he had a better education than was usual in that day, his services were constantly in demand in the performance of such duties as required an expert and ready penman. 2. I'm sorry I have found Find-A-Grave to be a great site for information. I have been a member for 4 years and everyone I have dealt with other this time have been very polite, kind and very absolutely bent over backwards to make sure their records are right. I have wrote to a few to update information and they were more than happy to make their records correct. I don't understand why there is such a bad name given to this site, but I do agree, What you find on the internet is more of a "guideline" to the final answers you seek. Research, Research and more research and getting down to finding documents and actual records will be the only way to find the truth to what you seek. Most of my family records on Ancestry.com are a joke. They are so outdated and incorrect that it makes me upset. People just copy what they find and say it's gossip. It's far from the truth! Just keep digging, everyone. 'The truth is out there".. and you just need to find it. Jerry L. Swafford Swafford - Swofford Families of the Midwest In a message dated 1/24/2012 1:23:27 P.M. Eastern Standard Time, ferg@ntelos.net writes: That was what I said....remember? That the site was originally folks that visited cemeteries and photographed headstones, not the way many do, today, as evidenced by Kathi, and others. You were lucky to have had a good experience....many have not been so lucky, and people NEED to be reminded that, along with everything else found on the internet, one must determine the source before knowing how much credence to give what they found. This was a warning, once again, that not everything one sees in print or on the internet, is true. I think we've given this non-Chester subject enough of our time and space.....so,how about posting some Chester queries, folks. S. " I'm a little distressed at all this negativity about Find-a-Grave. 2. Kathi Jones-Hudson
    3. Obviously I'm biased but I can tell you that there has always been a fairly significant amount of speculative posting on FAG. I've seen contemporary African-American's listed as being buried in a slave owning family cemetery that hasn't existed for nearly 200 yrs, I've found a white woman listed in an African-American cemetery not founded until 20 yrs after her death in a county 45 miles away from where she lived. I've found people listed in one of my family burial grounds who was not related and definitely not there. One of the reasons people have given me for doing this is that they didn't know what other cemetery might be in that area, one told me he couldn't really read the death certificate very well and "found" a cemetery with the same first letter ("L") and had no knowledge of the geography of the state he was researching. Some of it is lazy, some of it copying other people's work rather than actually visiting a cemetery. We have our transcriptions and sometimes our photos as well stolen by people who then contribute them to FAG as well. With the no-human-involved approach there is no living person to say 'hey, that is impossible' -- just my opinion.   Kathi Jones-Hudson, National Coordinator Tombstone Transcription Project http://www.usgwtombstones.org/ >________________________________ > From: Sandra Ferguson <ferg@ntelos.net> >To: Nancy Neuman <neuman.nancy@gmail.com>; 'Barb Januscheitis' <bjanuscheitis@gmail.com>; pa-old-chester@rootsweb.com >Sent: Monday, January 23, 2012 2:33 PM >Subject: Re: [PaOldC] Find a grave > >  What I've heard lately is that there seems to be a rise in submissions >from people that never visited the cemetery and never photographed a >headstone.  They seemingly post information they have found in secondary >sources, such as county histories (and we all know how inaccurate many of >those are).  I'm sure they're simply trying to be helpful, but are, in >reality,  simply muddying the waters.  I have no first hand experience with >this, as many seemingly have, for I have been the one submitting photos and >data for my own family.  It's simply another case of what happens when there >are no regulations for what may be submitted......it seems it started out >with folks taking pics and adding them and their info to the site, which is >as it should be, but is changing into a place where folks post what they or >some secondary source 'think' is the burial site.  Not quite the same as >walking the cemetery and taking photos of the stone, which was how it >started.  Like everything else on the internet, we simply can't, >unfortunately,  believe anything without knowing where the info came >from..... > >                                                                            >                                                                            >                                            S. > > >"I take photos of graves in my local cemetery to fulfill FindAGrave >requests.
