My cousin says that our line of ECKMANS came to Maryland as Hessian soldiers to fight for the British in 1776 but has no proof of this and is not interested in genealogy. I do not know when or how they moved from Maryland to Pa. The oldest Eckman I have in York Pa. is Ellis Albert Eckman b abt. 1848 and his wife Emma Jane Christine b 12-26-1847. They were married 1-6-1870 in Maytown Pa. and had four children Catherine Barbara,Anna Viola,Leonard H. ,and Joseph Ellis.
