I also have heard of this, this is a response from another list I belong to, has interesting info: >>I have received several-mails from a genealogy "company" that has been described as a scam operation on several genealogy web sites such as rootsweb and ancestry.com. It appears that this outfit is spidering the genealogy lists to find e-mail addresses and then sending e-mail spam to those who post to the list that includes the surnames of the families the listers are researching. These e-mails are coming from genseekers.com and they are using a hotmail e-mail address. This company was specifically mentioned in several of the articles by Dick Eastman at ancestry.com. He says, in one article: "If you receive a suspicious-sounding offer, my first suggestion is to go to the home page for these newsletters on Ancestry.com at www.ancestry.com/library/view/columns/eastman/eastman.asp. Enter the word "scam" (without the quote marks) into the box labeled "Search The Library." This will find all the articles that I have written that contain this word, along with more articles by other authors." The latest e-mail I received from genseeker.com included the following information in the first several paragraphs (minus the hyperlink to their website): "Subject: DianaRoche, We have information on your family! Re: Re:CLARION CO,PA,MORTIMER, ELDER, BUCHANAN Date: Mon, 11 Nov 2002 1:7:57 -0600 Dear DianaRoche: We sending you this e-mail in response to your inquiry: Re:CLARION CO,PA,MORTIMER, ELDER, BUCHANAN posted on August29, 2000 at 21:37:50. We believe to have found some genealogical information supporting your family history.
