    3. My cousin says that our line of ECKMANS came to Maryland as Hessian soldiers to fight for the British in 1776 but has no proof of this and is not interested in genealogy. I do not know when or how they moved from Maryland to Pa. The oldest Eckman I have in York Pa. is Ellis Albert Eckman b abt. 1848 and his wife Emma Jane Christine b 12-26-1847. They were married 1-6-1870 in Maytown Pa. and had four children Catherine Barbara,Anna Viola,Leonard H. ,and Joseph Ellis. Please let me know if any of this connects with what you know. ----- Original Message ----- From: <RealtorJE1@aol.com> To: <PA-OBITS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, September 17, 2002 5:05 PM Subject: Re: ECKMAN-York Pa. > I am searching the Eckmans in Maryland. 3. Lynell, do you have some FHL (Family History Library) near-by? Check with them, I found some records of deaths on a Orphan's court records microfilm, which I subsequently found a White death that sure seems familiar! My gr. gr, grandfather on the White side, I think, which was a surprise! They're on the web! You can find out the nearest one to you on there! They have a index of the things there that you can order by microfilm microfiche too! Someone had put death records from the county on this film too! It was great! No, I'm in no way advertising just know that I'm doing that now (looking at a microfilm there renewed again to look closely at this), ya find more sometimes from that timeframe that you received! 3. Gee, 1931 isn't that long ago! Find out what "local paper" it was in try to go to the state to find out if you can locate a microfilm! Our local paper is stored at the local Public library in OH, but varies in different states, I suppose! You might be able to check with the interlibrary loan places too! AGLL in your local library check this! Go from there. Most places charge ya about $3.25 per film or so! FHL might have some newspapers, but mostly vital records, thought they go farther back than that! 3. Around the area of Columbiana County, OH, the Funeral Homes always have written up or the Paper does, but they always have had a history of each person's life for their obituary including birthdates deathdates parents names, but depend on the paper. But it varies with the paper, I suppose. If you know the funeral home they're still in operations okay, but if not your back to square one, so obituaries are one of the places, the cemeteries vary with their help also! Take a chance! What do you have to loose?! Contacting them by mail is cheaper, but if your going that direction call first then stop by!
