I have no further information on the following. Newspaper unknown. DEATH OF ROBERT CRATTY---Mr. Robert CRATTY died at the old CRATTY homestead near Prospect at 4 o'clock on the morning of Saturday, August 20th, 1887, and had he lived until Wednesday following would have been 103 years of age. Robert CRATTY was born near Chambersburg, Pa., August 24, 1784. His father was born in the province of Ulster in the north of Ireland, became a soldier in the British Army, and served during the French war, 1758, in America. Discharged from the army he remained in the colonies and became a Pennsylvania farmer, married a Franklin county lady, like himself of Scotch-Irish descent. In 1786 the family removed to Western Pennsylvania and settled in Butler, where Mr. CRATTY attended school, and enjoyed the advantages of a Christian home and sanctuary privileges, and at the age of twenty years, faithful to his early religious instructions, and ture to his convictions of duty, he united with the Presbyterian Church, Rev. I. BRACKEN, pastor, and for nearly eighty-three years he has been a faithful and consistent member of that household of faith. In 1813 he enlisted in the U. S. Army and served as a Lieutenant at Fort Erie, Pennsylvania. In 1817, with his wife and children, he emigrated to Ohio. In 1819 he bought land--one hundred and sixty acres, near Prospect, built a log cabin, and in a few years provided a home where he spent sixty-eight years. His funeral took place Monday and was very largely attended.

I just received the Certificate of Death for my ancestor, Jacob H. Speyer. He died 1 June 1939 after being struck by a car on a public highway near Montgomery, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. It was stated that an investigation was being made, but no autopsy was done. He died of traumatic shock at Muncy Valley Hospital. The undertaker was Thomas Redmond of Williamsport, but the body was removed for burial to Jersey City, New Jersey by Walter I. Speyer, his son. Would an automobile accident resulting in death have been reported in the local newspaper? I would also love to know if an obit was done for this gentleman. Was Thomas Redmond with a funeral home in or near Williamsport and if so, which one? Would those records indicate where in Jersey City, NJ my ancestor might have been buried? Sorry for so many questions and for posting to two lists at once, but I'm hoping someone out there can help me with these questions. I welcome any thoughts and/or suggestions on how to learn more about my ancestor by following information learned from this death certificate. Thanks! Fredreica

I have written and called several of the Pittsburgh local cemetery's and I have found that most are understaffed. At Homewood, I located my families plots only after walking the entire cemetery. The small shack on the property has maintence people who know little of its contents nor of their whereabouts. At Allegheny, which seems to be very active and everyone overworked and busy, I did find a sensative lady who with patience and a plot plan, guided me to the proper locations. I went to Wheeling WV and the local former popular cemetery Pensinula, is now under City Engineering and again no plot plan nor did they feel any obligation other to keep the grass cut, lock and unlock the gates and try to discourage vandelization of the property. I live in Louisiana and I am currently on my fourth trip up to locate my little gems of the unfolding mystery. In Wheeling in Nov. snow covered all the stones. This weeK I got a photo of my ancestor. The old fashioned way seems to work best. I love the internet and the help of "Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness" but garnering small bits of information at times is very tedious. Good luck Nancy. Search Keyword RAOGK and perhaps someone will go on site for you and see if you get better results. I am looking for an obit for Charles Peach who I believe died in Pittsburgh in Allegheny County in 1930. I've written to the state for a death certificate and none was found. I've also asked for a ten year search and none was found. I've called the cemetery where he is buried and no vital information is recorded nor is there a tombstone. I've gone to the Carnegie Library in Pittsburgh to search for obits, but there is no index to the Pittsburgh newspapers. Short of going through the newspapers day by day and page by page, does anyone know of any other resources that are available? Thanks, Nancy Watson http://www.nauticom.net
