After reading an article in the Daily Local in Jan 1867. I found that John McGrath lived in West Goshen. Now since I am not familiar with the area, please forgive my ignorance but is West Goshen and West Chester 2 different places? Is that why I can't find him in the 1860 West Chester census? West Goshen Twp. is located apprx. 3 miles east of West Chester. I'm not sure how large a territory it spans, but I lived in W. Goshen Twp. and I lived a few miles east of West Chester, along Rte 3. So look at a map, find Rtes 30 and 3 and see the span between them just to the east of West Chester. The "Great King Road" mentioned in your other email is Old Rte. 30, or the Lincoln Highway, which runs through Downingtown east to Exton and then heads through Fraser, etc. as it makes its way to Phila. The railroad line runs parallel to Rt 30.
