    2. Hello! I'm not much of an historian, but I think you will find that Route 30, the Lincoln Highway, was actually the first turnpike in Pennsylvania, and ran all the way from Pittsburgh to Philadelphia - went through Lancaster on the way of course. There are still some original stone markers for Route 30 back in the mountain roads in Clearfield County, where my father's parents lived. In a message dated 3/2/2008 1:20:30 P.M. Eastern Standard Time, MillyEAllison@aol.com writes: I believe Route 340 was called the King's Highway. Route 30 or the Lincoln Highway was originally a turnpike between Philadelphia and Lancaster. However there is a King Road between West Chester and Exton, if you are traveling North on Route 100 from West Chester, King Road is to the right near Boot Road, several miles north of Taylor Run. West Goshen is a township which butts up against West Chester. In 1741 King's Road, between Philadelphia and Lancaster, was completed. The road has been called the Provincial Road, the Philadelphia Road and Old Lancaster Road. Part of it is presently Swedesford Road. http://www.lowermerionhistory.org/texts/schmidtd/way_west.html The King Road you mention, near Boot Road, was not in existence at that time. -----Original Message----- From: MillyEAllison@aol.com [mailto:MillyEAllison@aol.com] Sent: Sunday, March 02, 2008 1:19 PM To: gail@gregsteckel.com; mac_mag_hol@sbcglobal.net; PA-CENSUS-LOOKUP@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [PA-CENSUS-LOOKUP] Me Again!! 3. West Goshen Twp. is located apprx. 3 miles east of West Chester. I'm not sure how large a territory it spans, but I lived in W. Goshen Twp. and I lived a few miles east of West Chester, along Rte 3. So look at a map, find Rtes 30 and 3 and see the span between them just to the east of West Chester. The "Great King Road" mentioned in your other email is Old Rte. 30, or the Lincoln Highway, which runs through Downingtown east to Exton and then heads through Fraser, etc. as it makes its way to Phila. The railroad line runs parallel to Rt 30. I don't know where Taylor's Mill might have been. -----Original Message----- From: pa-census-lookup-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:pa-census-lookup-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of christine Sent: Saturday, March 01, 2008 8:38 PM To: PA-CENSUS-LOOKUP@rootsweb.com Subject: [PA-CENSUS-LOOKUP] Me Again!! 3. Hello Al, Thinking this might possbily be your James Bryant in the 1870. This is the closest I could find to a James born ca. 1871 in PA. It would follow through to the 1880 in KS and beyond. BRYANT, JOSEPH (1870 U.S. Census) PENNSYLVANIA , WAYNE, OREGON TWP Age: 33, Male, Race: WHITE, Born: PA Series: M593 Roll: 1464 Page: 196 Dwelling 112, family 112, Bryant, Joseph, 33, m, w, Farmer, 2000./700., PA, married w/in the year , Bessie, 22, f, w, Keeping house, ENG,both parents of foreign birth, married w/in the year , James, 1, m, w, PA, father of foreign birth. The foreign birth column is checked for Bessie, both parents, which makes sense. It's checked in the father col for James which could just be a mistake, ie. in the wrong column. That they were married "w/in the year" appears to be off as there are hash marks for all the other HOH couples on the image. I'm thinking the enumerator checked the box to note that they were married as he did for everyone else. These are the other BRYANT in Oregon Twp, should they help with the connection. 3. Hello Al, I had seen the James in KS in the 1900 and 1910 when searching for him earlier and think this family from the 1880 may be a possibility. The mother and children from this family remain in the same locations after 1880, Ellsworth cnty, Wyandotte cnty and share the same or similar parentage.. If it is the same family, James was 30 in the 1900 and 41 in the 1910 then he would have been born ca 1869 and ca. 11 in 1880. And if correct, Joseph and Bessie and James are in PA in the 1870.
