Charles LOHMILLER is found in a HARTUNG household in 1880. He was aged 20 and a bartender (The termite asked "Is the Bar Tender here?"). However, HARTUNG and wife are alone in 1870. I am wondering if anyone can find him for 1870? I cannot say with any degree of certainty that he was in Philadelphia. However, the 1880 says he was born in Pennsylvania. Other data seems to support that statement. My guess is his father was the immigrant. Other spellings? I am not sure. I hope not MILLER! If not, maybe Lowmiller, Loemiller, Lomiller, etc., etc. Thanks! Vince Summers

Woo Hoo! Another lead!!! :) Good morning to you all! Could someone try to find the 1820 census in Philadelphia for a widow? Her surname is BAKER. I found her on the 1820 city directory as the widow of my ancestor Jacob BAKER. It did not list her given name. She was livina at N. 8th St. at the time. I belive that might be in the Spring Garden section, but I'm unsure. Her given name might be Mary. I would guess that she would be in her 40s or 50s. Thanks for anything you can provide! This would be a huge find for me! regards Lydia

Hi Howard, I am a beginner on the computer but some help is better than none. There were 3 Vandegrifts listed in 1830 in Oxford Twp.: Benjamin, Jacob, and Levi. In Frankford Twp. there was only one: Eliza Vandegrift. Starting with Benjamin, he was the only male in the household and he was over 70 but not 80. He had 2 females in his house: one was age 10 to 15, and the other was 60 but not yet 70. Jacob: Jacob was the only male in this Vandegrift household and he was over 30 but not yet 40. He was living with 2 females also: one was under 5 yrs. of age and the other was 30 but not yet 40. Levi: Levi had three males and 5 females in his household in Oxford Twp. Levi was 30 but not yet 40 with three boys. One boy was under 5, one other boy was between 5 and 10, and the third boy was between 10 and 15. There were 2 females under 5, 1 female age 5 to 10, 1 female age 10 to 15, and one 30 but not yet 40. I did poke around in 1860 and found a Jacob Vandegrift b abt 1804 in ward 22, precinct 9, in Philly. He was living with a Catherine Vandegrift age 45, Thomas age 21, Elizabeth age 19, and a Frances age 14. There was also a Thomas Chatterton age 30 in the household. In Frankford Twp. there was only Eliza. She had two boys in her household one under 5 and the other between the ages of 5 and 10. There were 9 females in the household, so I am not sure which one was Eliza, the head of household. The eldest was 60 but not yet 70 but perhaps she was living with Eliza who was 30 but not yet 40. There was also a female 20 but not yet 30. There was one female age 10 to 15. AND 5 females between the ages of 15 and 20. Hmmm??? Hope this was some help. I see you realize there are no names provided for those in the household in 1830 and no identification of relationships. Happy hunting! Diane
