Mrs. J. C. PHILLIPS entertained a number of her husband's men friends at dinner at the PHILLIPS home in Lincoln avenue on Thursday evening of last week. The affair had been arranged as a surprise for Mr. PHILLIPS it being the fiftieth anniversary of his birth. An elaborate eight-course dinner was served. Mr. PHILLIPS was the recipient of a watch-chain and charm, an umbrella and a tie pin, the gifts of the guests, whose sentiments were fittingly expressed by the Rev. Dr. IRONS. Mrs. PHILLIPS received encomiums for the pleasure of the evening, the guests being unanimous in their praise of the bountiful hospitality. Mr. and Mrs. PHILLIPS responded with pleasant sentiments. Hand-painted collar button trays and cigar ash trays, the work of Mrs. PHILLIPS, were the favors. The guest list included Walter J. PHILLIPS of Crafton, Mr. KIEFER and Mr. BURNS of Pittsburgh, A. C.
