    1. JOHNSON Parole request

    3. Before Judge Erwin CUMMINS Monday was heard the petition of Mrs. Mattie JOHNSON, a Negress, for parole. She is now serving a term of imprisonment in the county jail for the murder of James HILL, a Negro, at Montour No. 9, in Robinson township, on June 12, 1927. The court after hearing the reasons assigned for a parole took the case under advisement. Mrs. JOHNSON, who since her sentence has acted as a domestic about the home of Jail Warden David CREIGH, has been a model prisoner and has given efficient service in the care of the warden's home. She is a southern Negress and does not impress one as a criminal. She killed HILL following a quarrel between HILL and Mrs. JOHNSON's husband, Richard JOHNSON. The men had been playing cards and had some words. When Mrs. JOHNSON believed her husband's life was in danger she seized a gun and shot and fatally wounded HILL. She had not been involved up to that time in the quarrel between the two men.
