MCMILLEN, BAMFORD, LEADBEATER William MCMILLEN died Sunday morning, August 26, 1928, at 5:20 a.m. in the Good Samaritan hospital, Lebanon, Pa. MCMILLEN suffered a broken back in an automobile accident Wednesday evening, August 15, when he and several members of his company were returning to camp from Legion quarters at Lebanon. An operation was performed early on Thursday morning at the Lebanon hospital, but his injuries proved to be of such a nature that the operation was of no avail, the spinal cord having been severed. MCMILLEN had served in the World was as a sergeant in the Fifteenth Engineers, Company D, 110th Infantry and was a popular soldier. He was at the annual encampment of his company at Mt. Gretna at time of the accident. MCMILLEN was 35 years of age. He is survived by his wife, Mazie PRICE MCMILLEN, and two daughters, Jean and Ruth, of Gibsonton, Pa.; his father, James MCMILLEN of Barr street, McDonald; three sisters, Mrs. Sara BURCHFIELD of Johnstown, Mrs. Agnes FRANKLIN of Detroit; and Susan MCMILEN, of McDonald; and one brother, Samuel, of Homer City. Mr. MCMILLEN was a twin brother of Mrs. Agnes FRANKLIN. Funeral services were held from his late home at Gibsonton on Wednesday evening at eight o'clock. The body was brought to the First Presbyterian church of McDonald Thursday noon. It was escorted to the church by forty-two men of his company, where it lay in state until three o'clock, when services were held by Rev. B. F. HEANY, pastor. The pallbearers were six men of Company D, who were with MCMILLEN at the time of the accident. Interment, in military form, was in Robinson's Run cemetery. *Note: I have a copy of the article which details the accident, email me if interested Mrs. Mary L. BAMFORD, widow of David G. BAMFORD, late of the borough of Midway, and one of the best known women in that section, died in her home Monday night at 10:10 o'clock following an illness of some duration. Mrs. BAMFORD was born August 21, 1859, in Sharpsburg, the daughter of the late Hugh and Sarah CAMPBELL LEONARD. She was married August 14, 1844, and had lived in Midway since that time. She had been a life-long member of the United Presbyterian church and had always been active in church and missionary work. Mrs. BAMFORD is survived by two children, Mary E. and Leonard G. BAMFORD, both of Midway and two grandchildren, Martha Geneva and Mary Frances BAMFORD. A sister, Miss Ann LEONARD, and a niece, Mrs. J. C. MCFAIL, both of Tampa, Fla., also survive. Funeral services were held in the late home Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Eastern Standard time, in charge of the Rev E. L. RALSTON, pastor of the Midway United Presbyterian church. Interment was in the Midway cemetery. Born to Mr. and Mrs. Edward LEADBEATER (nee Frances REGIS), a son, on August 20. The infant died August 26. *Oakdale column
