Does anyone know what .inst would mean when it is written after a date in an obituary? I have found it quite frequently in the 1892 obits I have been transcribing. It generally reads like this Joe SMITH, on the 5th, inst., husband of Mary SMITH. Sometimes it appears that the death is listed in the month after it actually occurred. Could the .inst notation have something to do with that? Thanks for any ideas. Vickie
