    3. Out Of The Long Ago Forty Years Ago August 28, 1897 David FULTON of Hickory fell off a horse and broke his shoulder. A county bridge has been ordered over the Raccoon, on the road from Bulger to the Holland Scott road. The $10,000 electric power plant that was but in the Tom Run mines about a year ago was destroyed by fire. RIDDLE and BEST have completed the new Fayolle schoolhouse, 28x40, 13-foot ceiling, in North Fayette. J. B. WILLIAMS has rented William PARKINSON's barbershop. M. R. CONLEY received $20 reward for catching Robert STEWART, the horse thief. Burglars entered Mr. FRANKLE's store and stole $20 worth of hats and clothing. 451 are enrolled at the McDonald public school. Room 1 has 94, 52 are new to school life. Henry PLANCE raised Mr. RICHARD's house at Turntable 3 ½ feet. Mrs. Fred KELSO and grandson Edwin returned the first of the week to their home in Akron after spending a week with relatives and friends in McDonald and vicinity. Thirty Years Ago August 24, 1907 Dr. J. A. DOUGLASS has purchased the SAUTERS property on Lincoln avenue for consideration of $6500. Mark DENNY of Short street had his right had crushed between two cars in the mine. The Willow Grove Mine of the McDonald Coal Co. ships 400 tons of coal a day. S. C. STEWART is building a new residence on his lot on the corner of Coal and Fannie streets. Deaths of the week were: Emile KOJUSINK and George LANGDOM of Shaw Mine, Pauline BOSSO and Alfred DE FRAWER of Cecil, and Walter HAMPSON of Laurel Hill. A gold watch and chain was presented to Captain IHRIG, drillmaster of the McDonald Hose Co., at a banquet held August 20. The new electric machinery for H. W. RANK has arrived. The machinery weights nearly 100,000 pounds and is of the latest pattern. Twenty-Five Years Ago August 23, 1912 Deaths of the week were Charles DHINAUT of Sturgeon and Miss Ann PARTRIDGE, 73, of Ada street, McDonald. Louis LEVISON has purchased from W. A. WRIGHT a dwelling at the corner of Station street and Washington avenue, and a store building in Lincoln avenue for $6625. Frank MCCOMBS of Primrose and Mae CARTER of Venice were married August 15. While handling gasoline back of RAAB's store in Midway, some of it ignited and caused a big blaze. The firemen were called but the fire was out before they arrived. Seventy-five gallons of the fluid was destroyed. J. J. DANIEL's property in Valley street, comprising a double and single dwelling and two acres of ground was sold at Sheriff sail to a man from Monongahela for $2000. Charles A. MCGEE and Mary D. MCCUNE were married August 19 in St. Alphonsus church. The drill team of our fire department won second prize in the contest at New Kensington. The Washington (Pa.) borough council is erecting a $5000 garbage furnace. At present it costs the county seat $1800 a year to take care of its garbage. Twenty Years Ago August 24, 1917 Tillie COCHRAN has resigned her position as cashier of the Federal Supply store. Hillaire MOTTE, accomplished cornet player, leaves Saturday for a two weeks ' engagement with INNES' famous band at the big fair in Toronto, Canada. Wilson NELSON broke ground for his new residence in Imperial. J. M. AIKEN has installed a gasoline tank, holding several hundred gallons, on his property in Bulger. Deaths of the week were Esther Eloise SALLIE, 17, of Poplar street, McDonald, and John E. BECK, 73, of Hickory. Charles SCHWAB of Midway, head driller at the deep well at Geary, underwent an operation in a Pittsburgh hospital. Zula MATCHETT and John BAMFORD, both of Midway, were quietly married August 22 in Adamsville. Fifteen Years Ago August 25, 1922 Deaths of the week were Henry OSSOWIEZ and John MCCLAIN of McDonald, and Mrs. Samantha MOORE of Houston. Edna CARLINI, 1 ½, of Canonsburg was instantly killed when a truck, driven by her father, overturned in Bishop. Louis MASQUELIER of Valley street was injured when he was struck by an automobile near his home. Mr. BELL of Noblestown has a crop of peaches this year amounting to 1,000 bushels. George MURRAY of Primrose had his tonsils and adenoids removed. Young Edna ROHDE of Midway fell out of a tree and broke her arm. R. M. DAVIDSON of Midway cut his left arm with a hatchet while building his new home. Six stitches were required to close the wound.
