Dwight-- I am pretty sure that it couldn't have been Laura Louan (Ozment) BURNS who swore the affadavit on 11 June 1832, as she wasn't born until about 1849. > I have a copy (of a copy) of an affadavit sworn to 11 June 1832, State of Oklahoma, County of Okmulgee, by Laura Louan (Ozment) BURNS (a.k.a Leah Louisa OZMENT, a.k.a. Leah Louisiana OZMENT, a.k.a. "Lou"), d/o John Jasper and Margaret Elizabeth (Morgan) OZMENT. If the 1832 date isn't a typo, the woman was likely John Jasper's sister, Leah L. Ozment, b. 1798. However, she didn't marry a BURNS; her husband was Benjamin FRANKLIN. It is likely that John Jasper's daughter was named after this sister. Leah came with John Jasper and his family to Cooke County, TX after she was widowed, according to Loveta Ravize. Please recheck the copy and confirm the date with us, so we know which Leah/Laura/Louan is making the affavavit. Thanks for posting the information, too. I had not heard of it. Caroline Miller
