    3. Hi folks. Today I completed transcribing the pocket journal of Dr. John DuHadway of Caroline County. The journal contains names and some treatments of over 388 individuals in the area of Fowling Creek, Caroline County, MD. I have contacted Adina Dyer to have the journal posted on the Caroline County web site. If you have email that can accept attachments, I will be glad to send the data to you in an Excel file. The journal is really like a mini-census of that area taken between 1893 and 1907 and it dovetails with the one I already transcribed and posted to the Caroline County site. Some interesting things: 1. The phrase "Visited wife in confinement" indicates a pregnant female about to deliver. 2. There are some birth announcements in the ledger that are included in remarks columns including one mention of twins. 3. The first mention of a vaccination was in 1904. 4. The first mention of a hospital was in 1905. 5. People did not use a doctor the way we do. They didn't call the Doctor unless it was truly needed. As an example, there are several listing of Dr. Duhadway responding to a "wife in confinement" followed by the indication of a birth. More often, the same visit results in a separate entry, a couple of days later, indicating a visit to a child or a baby. Apparently the women chose to deliver without a doctor. Several well known names that have been appearing in the Lower Delmarva list are in the ledger. Good luck, Frank Frank and Chris Courtney Moncks Corner, SC
