In the 1850 census it just list Varnum as 34 being a merchant born in N.C. and his son James 7 years of age born in Tenn. The John from above is not mentioned? >> Lon, I just looked at this census last week, and I read his wife's name as Susan. This was without me knowing about the marriage record. I believe Susan was his third wife. You gave me the marriage of Varnum to Emily V. Henderson on 10 May 1847 in Tennessee but it didn't say which county it was. There is a Varner Ozment who is in 1870 Bates Co, MO, but the date seems off for his age. The census is very hard to read. Eleanor Colson
