Good Morning Dwight & Frank, Thanks for responding to my inquiry on the 1822 Guilford Co. land sale. I believe the Richard OZMENT who sold his land in 1822 (to CAMPBELL) may have been the son of Samuel and the one who married Rebecca (Becky) PAVEY (aka Peavy) in Guilford Co on Jan. 11, 1816. I have been corresponding with Elizabeth (starborn@earthlink.net) since her June 6th inquiry on the Ozment-List and am convinced at this time that her Celia Ozment Carter was the daughter of Richard & Rebecca (Pavey) OZMENT. The following is my reasoning for this thinking (shortened) . . . . . 1) Richard had a sister, Celia (both children of Samuel Ozment.) 2) Celia Ozment Carter was born: 1819, NC 3) Celia OZMENT CARTER named her first-born, a daughter, Rebecca. She had twin sons next one of which she named Richard. One thing I want to mention is I had checked on Celia Ozment's marriage to EB (Enos) Carter (Nov. 28, 1837, Wilson Co, TN) and found that Celia was listed as "Ozburn." I asked Elizabeth about this (she'd also seen it), but Celia's 2 daughters' death certificates stated their mother's maiden name was OZMENT. Elizabeth wrote that she also had found the following (1860 Carlisle Co, KY census) along with EB & Celia Carter (probably Celia's brothers?) ...... David O____nt, Farmer, 46, b: NC (b:1814) John O___nt, Sadler, 38, b: NC (b:1822) Was David Ozment (above) a son of Richard (by a first marriage?) Now, if John Ozment (above) was the son of Richard & Becky (of which we highly suspect he was), and he was b: NC in 1822, then very possibly Richard & Becky sold their land after John was born in preparation for a move (Wilson Co, TN?) Their known migration route so far: Guilford Co, NC > Wilson/Dickson Co, TN > Graves Co, KY> Ballard (now Carlisle) Co, KY. I am wondering if maybe they didn't go somewhere between Guilford Co, NC and Wilson Co, TN. ???? I also want to add a little on the PAVEYs here ... John PAVEY migrated to Guilford Co (by 1800) from Caroline Co, MD. and lived in the same area where the OZMENTs lived. Although their name was really PAVEY, in NC it was always mis-spelled PEAVY. John PAVEY (b: ca: 1754) was md. 1st to (Mary?) ANDERSON (b: ca: 1758) and on the 1790 Caroline Co, MD census had 1 son (my ancestor, Anderson PAVEY) and 2 daughters. (Believe one to be Becky.) His 1st wife died, for in 1801 in Guilford Co, he married 2nd: Frances "Fanny" MARTIN. On the 1800 Guilford Co census, he had 2 sons (which would have been Anderson & Samuel) and only 1 daughter listed (Rebecca? Possibly the other dau. was already married?) We know he sold his NC land in 1807-09 and was found in Harrison Co, IN on the 1812 Tax List and dec'd by June, 1814 (LA filed, Washington Co, IN.) I have always hesitated to say that he died in Washington Co., as their history books write him up as an Indian scout ... so, he could have died anywhere! <g> We have never had a clue as to where he and his family were between 1809 and 1812 (altho it could have been IN.) Now, John Pavey had a sister, Mary "Polly" Pavey WILLIAMS (wife of Levin Williams ... we believe the same Levin who was also a neighbor of everyone in Guilford Co, on the 1800 & 1810 census.) By 1818, Polly Pavey Williams was living in Lincoln Co, NC (Levin had left her.) What I am now wondering is if possibly Becky Pavey Ozment lived with Levin & Polly rather than moving with John & Fanny Pavey??? I believe I found Levin & Polly (Pavey) Williams' son, Levin Williams, who md. in Logan Co, KY (a STRADOR, from NC) ... Logan Co is, literally, just "up the road a piece" from Wilson Co, TN! Does anyone have any research on David STACK (md. Richard Ozment's sister)? He, along with Rebecca PAVEY, Isaac ANDERSON were in Margaret COOK's 1817 Guilford Co. will (Richard Ozment was the witness.) At this point, I think there's a good chance that Margaret MAY have been John & Mary Pavey's other 1790 daughter and a sister to Rebecca. Please, if anyone has any additions or corrections, let me know. I'm sorry this was message so long. Marsha
