Hello All, Hope everyone is doing fine. I have been getting email from a young 15 year old man in Bath, England who is going to boarding school right now. He has shared with me some of his findings on his own line. I thought y'all might find the following interesting. Be sure and keep scrolling down. I have his permission to only share the following with y'all: To: LonRMartin@aol.com Dear Sir, I saw your request for information on Osments and i have some regarding that matter, I myself am a Osment in England. What I know is that the English branch of the Osments are descended from Norman armourers from the period of 1066 and becoame small hold knights. I hope this is a help to you. Yours faithully, James Osment, 15 also in another email: Also when my late Grandfather researched about Osments he found that there is some kind of conference of Osments every year in the U.S. and I wander if you know more. Also in the 1950-1970s there was a mass exodus of my branch of Osments to Australia and New Zealand leaving my Grandfather( one of four brothers) behind 'flying the flag' for the Osments in England. He may have left if he hadn't have been serving in the Royal Navy, which incidently was in for around 35 years having joined at 15 and leaving at 50. My Great Uncle in Australia is writing two books one about the Osments( I think it's just our branch) and one about his own life. I hope this e-mail finds you in good health and I'll be more than happy to continue recieving and sending e- mails to you. yours faithfully, James Osment, Bath, England Ozzie And finally this last email: Dear Lonnie As they say in the British Telecom adverts 'it's good to talk', which it is. It is a pleasure to correspond with you and I hope we can do that some more. It is good to hear there is a Osment/Ozment cemetery in Tenesse, but I suppose Wilson county is probably bigger than the British counties like surrey. Our branch of the family,as I have said before, were descended from small hold Lords and eventually became yeoman farmers. However this probably lasted up to the English Civil War and being Wiltshire men probably fought for the king. And we have a long military heritage. There was definately an Osment serving for the regular armies of King George in the American war for independance( he may have even fought against your ancestor!, at such battles as guildford courthouse, bunker hill and yorktown, perhaps). After that I am pretty sure that Osments have fought in every major British conflict, and in fact I myself I am going that way. I met an army recruiter and he said I could join after I went to university as an officer! Which would be good. Anyway I hope this letter finds you in good health and perhaps next time you write you couyld tell me a little about yourself. yours faithfully James Osment, Bath, England Ozzie
