I am a descendant of David Osment born about 1778 in Holnest, Dorset died 1875 in Sherborne, Dorset through his daughter Martha. I have some descendants of some of his other children as well, namely George, David, James and Mary Rose (who emigrated to South Australia with her husband George UPPILL in 1839). As far as I know this branch of the Osments don't have any special military history - David was a butcher but we may be connected. Could you ask James? or yourself :-)) - you may be a descendant too?
