I am looking for parents and siblings of Cecilia (Celia) Ozment, born 1819 NC, married EB Carter 28 NOV 1837 in Wilson Co TN. Celia named her children Rebecca, Alexander Pitts Carter, Richard P, and John David. Alexander and Richard were twins-- if anyone knows of twins in the Ozment line, or the name PITTS, there might be a connection. Sons AP and Richard served with the 6th TN Cav on the Union side. AP eventually removed to Scott Co MO and had 11 children by two wives. I don't know if Richard survived the war, and am waiting for his service record from the Archives. Rebecca married a Jett and stayed in Carlisle Co KY, where she still has descendants. I don't know what happened to little John David Carter. Thanks for any help tracing Celia's parents and siblings. ~~ Elizabeth
Hi Elizabeth, I have a Rebecca PAVEY (Peavy) who md. a Richard OZMENT in Guilford Co, NC on Jan. 11, 1816. These OZMENTs seemed to have dropped out of site! My Guilford Co. researcher 'lost' them for a while, then on a later census found Rebecca Ozment, alone, on a census. (Of course, we're assuming that this was the same Rebecca.) I have always thought there was a good chance that this Rebecca Pavey/Peavy was the dau. of my ancestor, John PAVEY (dec'd by June, 1814, Wash. Co., IN.) Also, there were some PITTS who had migrated to IN that I've often wondered if there may have been some kind of an earlier family connection. In the unrecorded will of Margaret Cook (Guilford, dated 1/13/1817), it lists Rebecca Pavey; David Stack; and Isaac ANDERSON. The witness: Richard Ozment. We believe that Rebecca's mother was an ANDERSON. It may be interesting to learn what the "P" stands for in Richard P ... wonder if it was Pavey? This family was really known from using the mother's maiden name for naming children. (My ancestor, Anderson PAVEY, was a son of John and probably the brother of Rebecca Pavey Ozment.) Would very much like to correspond with you further when you have the time. In the meantime I will see what I have accumulated on the PITTS family (although I don't believe it is really that much.)
