(John’s son and Alfred’s brother, James H., who married Elizabeth Eddings in 1817, went to AR in 1829.) If 1767 James was a senior, and if his first wife was a Martha (if I’m remembering Evelyn’s land document correctly), then perhaps therein lies the basis for the family folklore. But, even if so, 1767 James was a son of Richard, etc., not of Mr. Jolley’s putative lineage. Moreover, an ancestor could not have fought under Lafayette in SC beginning in 1778 (the war lasted until 1781), have taught in an Indian mission in NC, have married, and have sired Robert Lafayette Ozment in 1779 or 1780 in the alloted time, methinks. >> Lonnie, when you have time, would you ask John for his reasons why he thinks James Henry, Alfred, et al are sons of John Ozment and not James Henry, Sr. and Martha Ardent? I have never seen that written down in a clear manner with some sort of documentation. I think if I could see something like that it would really help my confusion and others. It is hard to accept something else when the family lore points in a different direction. Thanks, Eleanor Colson
