Hello Everyone, Thank you, Lon, for sharing. It is so interesting (and, thank goodness, something new! <g>) I have a couple of my 'food for thought' things here...beware ... they can be dangerous! :-) We believe the very early Paveys (Joseph Pavey, dec'd by Dec., 1733, Sussex Co, DE and quite possibly the father of Samuel Pavey I who may well have been Rebecca Pavey Ozment's gg grandpa) was involved in the shipping/trading business.... who we believe to be his son, Joseph Pavey, JR. was hired by Oglethorpe (1736) to be a Ranger and Indian Trader in Savannah and Augusta, GA. Apparently, Oglethorpe spent a lot of time in Charleston, SC (do you suppose Mr. Jolley could have meant Oglethorpe rather than Lafayette??) It appears that the Paveys 'hopped ship' and traveled up and down the east coast very frequently and I'm sure they weren't the only ones to travel like that (especially if they were conducting business.) For those of you that would like to read more about Oglethorpe, there is a lot of information about him through the (I believe) Augusta, GA USGenWeb site. I'll double-check there to see if they mention anything about Oglethorpe and New Orleans. Thanks, again. Marsha IL.
