Hello, everyone I received this information from Howard Ozment of Austin, Texas a few years ago and he gave me permission to pass it along back then and I did send it to several. We have so many new people on the list, I thought I would share it again: Our name is English with a Scandinavian base. It means "Man of God." A professor of the University of Texas researched it. He is deeply into the origin of European names. [This also goes along with what my grandfather Ozment told us that it was Swedish. LM] Also, from Howard in the same email: Our name derived from two brothers who came to the colonies in the 1700's from England. The two brothers, Richard and Samuel are the source of the Ozment clan. They arrived at Baltimore, Maryland as the port of entry into this country. We find a Richard Ozment, Samuel Ozment, and Richard Ozment, Jr. in Choptank Hundred, Caroline County, Maryland, in the 1778 Continental Census. We also find a Richard Ozment in Somerset County, Maryland, page 123 taking an oath of allegiance in 1778. There is still in existence to this day, Choptank, Caroline County, Maryland. Ok.
