I'm looking for John Lucious Ozment, born about 1885 in Black Fox, TN. I don't know the county. His father was John also and there were two others following him. I pick up the family in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Does anybody know John or any of his relatives? Connie
Hi Eleanor and Marsha and others: Here is the data that I found on one of the automated portions of the MD Archives last week. I forwarded this on to George Murphy. For info on the MD Ozments, I believe I have quite a bit that perhaps Dwight and others may not already have. As far as the Ozments are concerned, I am stumped at about 1790 time frame when Henry Ozment married a Catrup. However, I have the Catrups back to England and also a number of related families such as Woolchurch and Dixon. Just thought this may be worth sharing with the group. "Ozment's Bluff" located on the Saline River in Drew County, AR. It is named after my great grandfather. His name was Robert S. Ozment. My grandfather was also Robert S. Ozment. "Ozment's Bluff" is located on the East side of the River. My grandfather (papaw "Bob") moved across the river (about 5 miles away) and settled in the Sumpter community of Bradley County. He was a farmer. He had a peach/apple orchards and also raised cotton and sugar cane. His first wife was Lucy T. Wolfe. His second wife was Emma Orella Glennon (this was my grandmother). They had three sons; Alfred Edward Ozment, Vance Carl Ozment (my Dad), William (Bill) Junious Ozment, and three daughters; Etha May Ozment, Gladys Ozment, and Bernice Oleta Ozment. My father was also a farmer. My mother and father have three including myself. Carla, and Donna (my two sisters). We all still live in south Arkansas. My sisters in Bradley County and I in Ashley County. Just thought I would share this with the group. It might help fill in some missing "blanKs". I have more details if anyone would like (wives, children, birth dates, death dates, etc.) of this small family. "Thanks" to everyone else that is on the list sharing their information.

Thanks, Frank >> Hi Frank, I for one am very interested in the Talbot Co, MD Ozments. I believe that somewhere along the line, my TN and AR Ozments hook in with these guys. I also am in the process of putting up the two main Ozment lineages that I know about on the Ozment Family Website. I am nearly done with the descendants of James H. Ozment, Sr. Next I will be working on the ones that are in Maryland and their descendants. I can use all the help I can get on those lines. I appreciate you sharing your data. I think this would be an excellent way to get discussion going on this mailing list. If we share our data, maybe we can find those elusive connections. We now have 16 subscribers to this list. Has anyone done some recent research or old for that matter that has yielded some new information? Also, if you can think of anyone researching Ozments that is not on this list, please invite them to join. The more the merrier! Eleanor Colson

I think we all need this, about right now! "After spending a frustrating evening pouring over illegible handwriting in badly damaged and out of focus parish registers - and still NOT finding my relatives, I thought it was time to send an open email (at www.ofcoursethereisaHeaven.com) to all my 'Upstairs' relatives who have gone to Heaven (99% of them) or the Other Place (1%). The text follows. (Feel free to insert your own relatives names where appropriate.) "Dear ________: I am your _________ and living in the late 20th century here in ___________, _________. I am sitting in front of a microfilm projector (I'll explain what that is in a later email) in a special library run by the LDS (nice people, but more later on them, too) trying to decipher the small and shaky handwriting of your parish's minister/vicar/curate (choose one). He must have been either vertically challenged or had palsy - because it's unreadable! At least I think it's your parish! I'm not even sure of the decade. Thanks for leaving such a good paper trail! (Sarcasm intended.) According to family legend, you and your wife ___________ had _____ children, some of whom lived beyond infancy. Yet not a single one was recorded in the parish records! I can't even find your marriage certificate. You two WERE married, right? Didn't you know that there would be legions of people like me fanatically spending their waking hours and small fortunes looking for any and all traces of your lives? Were you just stubborn, couldn't afford the fees, or not members of the Established (or any) Church? You're wondering, "What's all the fuss, we're dead as doornails?" We're not sure, but I think down here we're infected with the same disease: Rootsus obsessionus. Of course, WE are going to leave better records for our descendants! (sure we will. HA!) Anyway, I'm glad I was able to vent my frustrations upward. If I couldn't do that, I'd have probably popped the obnoxious researcher next to me who is right now translating an old parish record in German - and out loud, for heaven's. (oops!) I have an idea.... When I'm "dead-on" (pardon the expression) to finding the correct record, give me some sort of sign. Make the projector bulb flicker twice. Or, if it must be done in the privacy of my home, I have a Labrador Retriever. Talk through her. That will get my attention for sure. Thanks for listening. I'll be better in the morning..... I'll be back at the library tomorrow night for Round 14, so catch me there. Sincerely, Your ___________, " Peace and Gentle Sunsets," __Anonymous__________________ Dwight W, Ozment Richmond, VA

If so, you go to http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl. In the search box, you type in Ozment and click on the search button. Then you will come to a new page for the Ozment list where you can search the 1999 records. There aren't that many right now. You put a first name of the Ozment you are looking for or whatever and click the search button. My grandmother was Lucinda Ozment, daughter of Charles Bland Ozment and my research has been mainly in that family. Evelyn Thoes and I are 3rd cousins, our great grandfathers were brothers. In 1996 Evelyn and I plus spouses spent an entire week at Nashville doing research for the Ozments and their locations. We had a great time. Sometime after 1900 the county lines of Wilson, Rutherford, and Davidson were changed and I have so far been unable to find out how and when they were changed. The cemetery that was in Wilson is now in Davidson. What will be the results of the 1930 census due to this change? As I mentioned what data I have is mainly in the Charles Bland Ozment family. A short listing of that family follows. Charles Bland Ozment, son of (James) Thomas and Molly Bland Ozment married Martha C. Ward 30 Dec. 1845. Elizabeth born Sept 1847 Married William P. Caroline and all, Well, I did it again ! No excuses. Thanks to sharp-eyed cousins like you I can depend on good proof reading. Someone has to keep me straight. I'm a great "typo-ist". The corrections are as follows: (1) OZMENT-D Digest, Vol. 99: Issue 8, Message:#1, Para. #3 - Birth date for John Lafayette OZMENT should be 1770-1780. (2) Descendants of William OSMAN (also corrected previously -- Subject: Re: - RICHARD OZMENT descendants) OZMENT-D Digest, Vol. 99: Issue 4, Message #4 -Death date for Nathaniel G. OZMENT should be March 22, 1883. Thanks, Caroline, for bringing these mistakes to my attention. Glad to hear the weather is nice in Monterey. We are heading into the hurricane season here on the east coast, but we need the rain to help end the drought !!! --Dwight <in Richmond, VA>
