    3. Hello Jackie Bob Ozment and James Ozment have been here at Lake Texoma for a few days fishing, talking over old times etc. Bob says that Grandpa Robert Henry in buried in Ravia, Oklahoma instead of Troy, Ok. Now that I think of it I guess he is right. I intend to go to the cemetery to for myself. The records of Troy shows him there. I believe the Ravia records and the Troy records must be together. Bob, James and I talked about Uncle Clint, Uncle Fate and the rest of the family. When Bob was about 17 he stayed about a month or 6 weeks with Uncle Fate in Arizona. I have some genealogy information that might help you if you want it. It is not all confirmed but seems to be in order to me. Do you know Winifred Johnson who is Uncle Fate's daughter? 1. [OZMENT] A case in point
    2. I had received the following question and sent off a reply. This person never acknowleged getting it or even saying a simple thank you. This person also has an extensive database but is probably unwilling to share any new information. Lon In a message dated 10/7/00 2:36:05 PM Central Daylight Time, writes: Can you or anyone you know shed some light on a matter I have been looking at? -- Note: I have records of two ELIZABETH ANN OZMENTs, one ascribed to parents JAMES H. & ELIZABETH EDDINGS Ozment, and the other to parents ALFRED & NANCY LANE Ozment. Both are listed as having the same birthday (23 Apr 1822 in Wilson Co, TN). One possibility is that they are one and the same person; and there is an error in parentage from part of the sources. A second possibility is that they are in fact two different individuals who just happened to be born at about the same time to brothers James and Alfred. Of course, there is also the possibility that they are two distinct individuals AND that they were born on the same date. I will keep them separate until I can get more definitive information. Hi, Elizabeth A. Ozment was born May 23, 1822 to James Henry Ozment, Jr. and Elizabeth Eddins. Elizabeth Ann Ozment was born in 1824 to Alfred Ozment and Nancy Ann Lane. Sincerely, Lon Martin

I am very interested in the "modern" Ozments. I find it extremely difficult to get material from them about their own lives. They think they live "boring" lives. I have met several new "cousins" and have even visited some of them. What Evelyn and I were talking about basically was her feelings concerning her LIVING relatives. I do have her tree and she was just letting me know that she was not comfortable about me sharing information about the living ones with others. Under no circumstances would I share anything given me about living relatives that I have gotten from others unless I had express written consent (and I can not really see any reason that would warrant this). As far as I am concerned that is personal property that belongs to her and she was kind enough to share. Now my own relatives that I have listed have given me permission to use their names and dates, etc. I know however that some of my older aunts do not like it that their sons/daughters have been married more than once. These parts I do leave out to the "public" out of respect because I know how they feel. I have my gedcoms separated with the branches (and with each person who has sent me one). That way I know who gave me what. I don't give away any information until I get some first. :-) and then I don't give everything out at once. I usually just answer specific questions and sometimes I may give the older generations in a genealogy report. I find that easier and more controllable. I usually want to know the person asking about a gedcom and I want to know their tree, so I will know how they tie in. If I can help them go back another generation or so, it makes everyone happy or maybe we can correct errors, etc. Sincerely, Lon Martin Amarillo, Texas

The only exception is my family branch that descended from Roy Ozment, Sr. and I have made those known with those relatives' permission. I have been fortunate to get living relatives from other people but that is for my private records only. I know of one instance where a lady sent me a gedcom that contained everything by accident. She meant to clean it up and it didn't work. She was worried and nervous about it. I told her I would never give out her information as I considered that her "copyrighted" material and I would never invade someone's privacy. I have never "published" anything without getting permission first. As you know the U.S. does not publish their census list until 72 years later and then that takes two years to publish. The last census of 1920 was released early because genealogists were "clammering" for it. The way the U.S. government looks at it is that 72 years later most things in it would not embarrass the living. I respect the right to privacy. Good to hear from you. We just celebrated my mother's 79th birthday. She is an Ozment. We had relatives come from Colorado, Arizona, Oklahoma, and other parts of Texas. We told some good "Ozment" stories. Some were even true. Your cousin, Lon

    1. [OZMENT] Just a reminder on the Census Schedules
    2. Census Schedules - U.S. Federal LaVona L. Ness The Mortality Schedules - In 1850, 1860, 1870, and 1880, census enumerators were directed to secure in addition to the usually required census data, information as to all persons dying within the 12 months preceding the census taking. These lists became known as the "Mortality Schedules". See pages 252 and 253 of "Genealogical Research Standards" by Derek Harland for a list of places to find these schedules. Limitations of the Census Schedules 1. Time. a. No census was taken before 1790 in the U.S. b. Earlier schedules contain less information than later ones. 2. Incompleteness a. Some families were missed, due to the length of time it took to take the census, or people were away visiting relatives, or some families lived in multi-dwelling units and were overlooked, etc. b. Parts of the censuses were lost or destroyed. 3. Indifferent enumerators a. Many enumerators were not well qualified. b. Instructions were not followed (i.e. initials only, no birth places listed, etc.) c. Some families were not home so enumerator got information from small children or neighbors or guessed the answers himself. d. Padded population. 4. Incorrect information given by family members: a. memory might be poor (most people did not read or write) b. Unfamiliar abbreviations and ditto marks (i.e. Conn., Ct., Cn., Cnct. were all used for Connecticut). c. Poor quality paper and ink d. Difficulty in reading microfilm copies (due to poor photography, double papers or pages filmed, making writing too small, etc.). Also filmer might miss a page by accidentally turning 2 pages. 6. Place of residence must be known a. If census has not been indexed then at least the county must be known to start a search, except in 1880 and 1900 censuses - the soundexes can be used. b. If your ancestor lived in a large city, you will have to know which part of the city or "ward" he lived in, in order to search the census.

No one knows for sure who his children are for sure that I know of. Many like Evelyn and I think he was the father of (James) Thomas and Cameron. Cameron was living next to him (or two "doors" down) in the 1850 census. Mary would have been a second wife to this James as far as I know, married sometime around 1820, I believe. I believe this same Mary was living with Cameron in the 1860 census. By then it is assumed that James had died. I have seen some of the researchers think he is James Henry Ozment, Sr. and I have seen these dates on their websites or family trees. We are hoping we can find a will. So far, no luck.
