This is a test of the Rootsweb lists I am on. It is also some information for the list administrator if they feel the list is not running as expected. And finally it is an attempt to get something posted to the list so Rootsweb does not turn the list off. The list admin should probably go to this page: http://home.rootsweb.ancestry.com/ and try to set up a new mailman login, if not already done. If you do that you will probably get to this page eventually: https://mailinglists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/lists/setupmail Then you might want to sign up for this list: https://mailinglists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/listindexes/search/Listowners But be warned, you will receive postings from that list almost every day. May 8 a day at times. Another option that I do not encourage is to turn the list over to me - at least temporarily. Again, I do not want that done if you are willing to keep the list. Mike Flannigan
Here is a new website I just finished. It creates Google Earth Maps in the USA for features listed in the GNIS database (cemeteries, churches, schools, etc). If you are interested in that, the program is located here: http://www.mflan.com/cgi-bin/gnis.cgi This is an example of the output created. Camden county MO cemeteries: http://www.mflan.com/temp/camdencemeteries.kml You need Google Earth to view that file: http://www.google.com/earth/explore/products/ It is free. This is not fully tested. If you have problems with the program I would appreciate it if you told me about the problem. If you find it frustrating to get the information you need, or you want a bunch of counties put together, I recommend that you contact me directly to produce that for you. It doesn't take me long to do this and I'm glad to get the information out there. Just ask for it. Mike
I am not related to the Jordans but I had some spare time and found some info on them. According to FamilySearch, Richard Jordan's parents are Thomas Jefferson Jordan, born Sep 22, 1832 in Chattaooga, Hamilton Co., Tennessee and died May 22, 1917 in Hartshorn, Texas County, MO. Elizabeth J. Cauthon, born Nov 8, 1932 in Tennessee, died Feb 26, 1901 at Hartshorn, Texas Co., MO. They were married about 1855 in St. Clair County, MO. It also said he remarried after the death of Elizabeth. In 1860 Census Thomas Jordan, age 24, Elizabeth, age 24, John R., age 4 and James R., age 2, in Hickory County, MO. In 1880 Thomas and Elizabeth were in Prairie TWP, Washington Co., Ark with Betsy Ann, 16, Joseph, 14, and Mary, 10. In 1900 Thomas and Lizzie with Fred A. or Ted A., 12, not sure of relationship, possibly grandson, 12, in Carroll TWP, Texas Co, MO. According to FamilySearch, Thomas' parents were John and Elizabeth Jordan. In 1880, James R. Jordan, age 23, was a farm hand in Springdale TWP, Washington Co, Ark, and in 1900, James, age 44, Margaret, age 37, were in Upper TWP, Sebastion Co, Ark with Juilain, 17, Joseph Henry, 14, Oscar, 15, Bessie, 10 and Elizabeth, 5. In 1910 James and Margaret were in Durham TWP, Washington Co, Ark with Nellie E., 15, and Jesse A., 6. Only part of the cemetery records for Washington Co, Ark are online and wasn't able to find where James and Margaret are buried. Jesse and Elizabeth Jordan was at Mars Hill TWP, Washington Co, Ark in 1850 and 1860 and Ray's Mill, Washington Co, Ark in 1870. According to a listing in the Cincinnati Cemetery, he was born Oct 17, 1818 and died July 7, 1904. There were also land records for him. I hope this helps you in your research. I apologize for any mistakes I may have made. If you would like any of these records contact me at SunShine_Gma@juno.com off line and I will send you any I have. ...............Becky Turner ____________________________________________________________ Graphic Design Courses New Students Get a Free MacBook! Hi, Although I have no links or connection to the Jordan family surname, I thought I would make a comment which could possibly interest you. I have an ancestor from the SW MO/NW AR Ozarks with the first name of Jordan and he was called "Jerd". It took me many years to discover his actual name was Jordan as even his tombstone says "Jerd". I had always wondered why he was nicknamed "Jerd" from "Jordan". Now, if Jordan was indeed pronounced "Jerdan", then that makes a lot of sense! I am sure you have tried checking census records with a soundex or looked for "Jerden" or "Jurden" or various spellings instead of Jordan... Sorry I have no connection, but wish you luck in your quest.... --- On Thu, 8/20/09, okiegirl1959 <okiegirl1959@suddenlink.net> wrote: From: okiegirl1959 <okiegirl1959@suddenlink.net> Subject: [OZARK-RESEARCH] JORDAN FAMILY ROOTS To: OZARK-RESEARCH@rootsweb.com Date: Thursday, August 20, 2009, 12:11 PM I am seeking possible information on jordan family iT is said to be pronounced JERDAN The men of this family namely one Jesse R.
