A few days ago I had an early morning phone call, and the caller turned out to be long-time OXF lister, and OFHS member, Bev McCombs. Some OFHS members may recall, either by having attended it, or by reading in the Oxfordshire Family Historian, that 9 years ago Bev spoke to OFHS on the "Ascott Martyrs" (in costume)! Within half an hour, Bev & her husband were drinking cups of tea with us. A very big surprise, because Bev lives in New Zealand! Bev has written & published a book on the descendants of those who left the Ascott area in ~1873 for New Zealand, entitled "Pratley Families - descendants from Oxfordshire" and very kindly gave me a copy which she signed for me.
