    3. The last time I was up there (some years ago now) Nuneham Courtenay house was occupied by a religious group who use it as a retreat. They are happy to let you visit the graveyard and church (the older one that is) in their grounds if you ask nicely. As I understood it the new church (in the village) is owned by Oxford University which uses it as an overspill store for books that it can't fit in the Bodleian. If anyone wants to find out some history of the Nuneham Courtenay estate there is an excellent article by Mavis Batey which you can access here: http://oxoniensia.org/volumes/1968/batey.pdf Like others it would be great to get access to the estate papers to follow up my interest in PITSONs, but the Bodleian is not an easy place to get into (other than the gift shop). There is also a book (out of print I think) called "The Deserted Village, The Diary of an Oxfordshire Rector JAMES NEWTON of Nuneham Courtenay 1736-86" by Gavin HANNAH, ISBN 0-7509-0205-1 which gives a little bit of a picture of early life on the estate. I would send an email to them to see if they have any record of your grandfather.
