It took a time to discover a lot of information, but I am "stumped" in any information regarding his parents and family in Oxfordshire, as the lady his son George married was of Bexley Kent. George is buried in Nunhead cemetery Deptford. Thomas died in 1856 and only found him on the 1841 census as being 55 and a boy Robert aged 7 living with him, the 1851 census gives him as a Retired Keeper living alone. Dear Renee In normal circumstances, I'd have been looking for a marriage in the early 1800's in the complete Oxfordshire Marriage Index 1538-1837. That's simply because many folks married in their twenties in those days. And I couldn't find a match. However, the age of the boy set me thinking. Did Thomas KIRBY marry later in life ? Was this a second marriage for Thomas KIRBY ? On that basis, I found this marriage which might or might not be the marriage of your ancestors :- Thomas KIRBY of Newton Purcell married Sarah HALL at Evenley (Northamptonshire) on 17 October 1831. Meanwhile, the incomplete Oxfordshire Baptism Index 1538-1851 has :- Robert KIRBY, son of Thomas & Sarah, baptised at Somerton in 1833 The parish registers of Somerton have been transcribed and indexed by the members of this society, and are available on CD from :- _http://www.ofhs.org.uk/CDsales.html_ (http://www.ofhs.org.uk/CDsales.html) They might give you further information. 3. Thomas & Sarah KIRBY had eleven children, born between abt 1810 and 1833. Sarah was buried at Somerton, St. James, on 15 November 1840, aged 59. There is no marriage in the Oxon. Marriage Index. As Sarah died before the 1841 census we cannot find out if she was born in Oxon., or not. However, it is quite possible that she was from a neighbouring county, and a marriage might be found there, circa 1809. The marriage of a Thomas KIRBY to Sarah WRIGHTON at Whitfield, Northants., on 15 July 1809, might be the one. I can trace the family back to Peter KYRBYE, born abt 1570 and buried at Charlton-on-Otmoor, St. Mary the Virgin, on 19 June 1625. Let me know if you would like further details. However, as the part of my program which produces trees in register formatis currently not working, I'll have to put the info. into emails.
