Goodmorning List, I would be grateful for any assistance in finding a marriage for a Thomas KIRBY and Sarah - the latter for whom I have no surname. Thomas was born/Christened 21/9/1783 Fritwell. The request follows on the research of George Kirby his son who was a Police Constable in Woolwich and died of Smallpox leaving his widow with 5 children, she remarried and had 3 further children by the second husband. It took a time to discover a lot of information, but I am "stumped" in any information regarding his parents and family in Oxfordshire, as the lady his son George married was of Bexley Kent. George is buried in Nunhead cemetery Deptford. Thomas died in 1856 and only found him on the 1841 census as being 55 and a boy Robert aged 7 living with him, the 1851 census gives him as a Retired Keeper living alone. Kind Regards, Renee - Oz
Renee, I have forwarded your query to a cousin of mine, as think your Kirby's may be on a Wyatt Family Tree, she is compiling. Hoping she is able to help you. Dear Renée Further to my earlier email, it now looks as if you have the wrong George Kirby. George the son of Thomas Kirby & Sarah, was baptized at Somerton, St. James on 23 September 1821 and was buried at Stoke Lyne, St. Peter, on 25 November 1886. He was a Master Blacksmith and was married to Patience TIMMS of Evenly, Northants. in 1847. He can be found in all the censuses up to 1881, always in Oxon., and his only description always Master Blacksmith. He was never a policeman. Patience died in 1901. What details do you have on the George that you are researching?
