If it was Newbury Berkshire then check to see if the one on findmypast is his record - if you are not a member you can buy enough credits to cover looking at all the pages (typically 3 to 7 often include . This means you will be able to copy them to your computer and those of us with membership will not risk losing it for using it for doing non personal research Wendy -----Original Message----- From: Richard.Self Sent: Sunday, July 24, 2011 3:01 PM To: oxfordshire@rootsweb.com Subject: [OXF] George William Self Hello again My grandfather George William Self served with the colours prior to 1892. In 1892 George was 24 years old. He was living at Stanton Harcourt in 1881 so he probably joined the Oxford & Bucks. As I cannot find him on the 1891 census I again assume he was abroad at the time. Can anyone suggest how I can find out more information on my Grandfathers early military carer. Thank you Wendy Yes he was on the "Find my past" records. I have now downloaded all 7 images. I was right about one thing he was in India when the 1891 census was taken. Now all I have to do is decipher the medal he is wearing on his WW1 uniform, the only photograph I have of my grandfather.
