Richard If it is just one medal and the photo was taken at the end of the war then its likely to be the Victory medal - given to all soldiers who survived. Most also got the British medal according to the record cards. I have had a run through the WW1 medal cards on ancestry and these are the medals each George/George William Self received. What I like about the records on find my past is that you get to see his personal details too. Its amused me with a couple of mine where they were measured on attestation and again when leaving to see that had grown am inch or two! If you google Royal Artillery India campaigns you get a link to a book that covers the period he was in India - post mutiny but never a quiet posting from what little I remember of Indian history.
