Hello All For years I have Laboured under the belief that when a son was Granted the Freedom to Trade as a result of his father's Freedom, that it was in his father's trade. However in my Gadney researches I have many instances where the son is in a different trade. A well documented case in point is that of Frank J Gadney, the extract of the Ox. City Acts shows- Frank J Gadney Son 1 John Gadney Bookbinder 18 Sept1874, Certainly Frank J is the first son of John who is a bookbinder but it is well documented that Frank J is a Tailor, he appears in all the census's from 1871 and many Directories as a tailor. I now suspect that the grant of freedom to the son of a freeman that he can carry out the trade for which he is trained for, and not neccessarily that of his father. It will solve a lot of problems that have plagued me for years if that is the case, any guidance on the matter would be gratefully recieved. Regards Ray G
